Unfortunately my school doesn’t offer AP World History and history being my favorite subject it’s very disappointing. I took APUSH last year and got a 5 and am currently in AP Gov & Politics. I already know the mechanics of DBQs and FRQs and am wondering if I should go through the trouble of taking the AP World exam. I don’t want to go through teaching myself, and going to a different school to take the test if a 5 isn’t achievable without taking the class. So is it doable?

Also, what review guide should I get? I bought the REA because I used it last year but I’ve heard that the World version isn’t any good.

Side Note: If this works out I’m planning on self-studying for AP Euro next year (I’m a junior); would it be better to do things in the opposite order?

I will also be self-studying AP World this year as a junior. I haven’t started yet, but I heard that the Barron’s book is the best for World.

I’m currently in APUSH and took Euro last year! It seems to be the general consensus that World is quite easier than Euro (even though Euro wasn’t bad at all, and I ended up with a 5). So if I were you, I would do World this year and save the harder one for your senior year when you are done with college apps and SATs and all that junk.

Definitely doable. All you need is a good textbook and/or review guide. My school used Traditions and Encounters 4th Edition and I got a 5, so it is definitely possible. Good luck to you guys!

I’m somewhat self-studying (taking a regular World History class, although it doesn’t cover nearly as much material as AP).

I’m using a combination of Barron’s and PR – Barron’s is more extensive and has more info (maybe a bit excessive), while PR seemed too light to cover up all the info. Highlight/mark up Barron’s like crazy. I think it’s doable, or maybe I just really like history. Props to you, and good luck!

I’m taking Ap world right now-its probably doable to self-study and certainly easier than the APUSH but there’s still a whole lot of material it covers that’ll take a lot of time and effort.

I self-studied as well for APUH, and I mostly used Barron’s. It is one of the best out there, but it sometimes misses few important historical events, so supplement with other textbooks
