I am currently a junior and I have taken a SAT prep course, it unfortunately didn't help much it got my score from a 1530 to a 1660. I have gotten many SAT prep books, how do I use them efficiently. I have the 4h edition Barrons math workbook, the Princeton SAT practice book 2010 edition and the 2011 edition. I also have the direct hits vocab list, the McGraw Hill critical reading and writing workbook, the Barrons grammar for the sat and act, and some Petersons workbook for the critical reading section for the SAT. I also have the 800 math book, to master the toughest problems on the SAT. I also have the official SAT study guide (the bluebook).

Current score:
CR: 550
Math: 570
Writing: 540 (8 on the essay)

HELP! How can I get a 2000 + on my SAT think I have all the resources, can someone please help me.

Are you honestly using these resources? Did you pay attention in your prep class? You have to do some of the work, you know. Practice WILL help. It’s already helped at least get you to 1660. Dedicate at least one hour a day to studying from your resource books (try not to just jump around). Also, I can’t stress the importance of paying attention in school. Take rigorous courses.

You should start with the College Board “blue book” for your primary practice materials and work through the 10 tests. Use the first 3 tests as full length practice tests.

Break down the other tests (4-10) into the sections you want to work on and focus on one section at a time. On the critical reading section look up any word you do not know most will be in the Direct Hits 2011 books. For math, take note of the types of problems you are missing. If you post a question here many CCers will give you explanations. Work on the writing sections last.

After you have worked through 3-4 tests, do one of the first 3 SATs as a timed full length test and see if you are making progress. Get started today! Good luck.

The problem is that my SAT PREP class has already goen through most of the book with me but It really hasn’t helped that much, right now im looking at the direct hits vocab and the Barrons math workbook. I have a second blue book that i will work on later on. Idk exactly what I am doing wrong.

there is prob no simpler way to study for SAT math than practice, mark all the questions you get wrong and learn to understand why you got it wrong and the then learn how to solve it correctly. keep doing this and you will eventually see a pattern in the way they are portrayed. practice practice, trust me there are no shortcuts to raising the math scores other than practice.

I am taking the test in March too! Let’s suffer together! :)

I’ve been using the PR, Kaplan, and CB diag tests and I alternate between the three taking a diag a day and jotting down my mistakes. (ALWAYS find out WHY you make the mistake and how to correct it.)

I have been writing down my mistakes in a notebook and it’s really useful because I’ll start to realize I make the SAME mistakes. From that, I remember going into the next diag and I’ll always increase my score! It’s so encouraging! You should try it! Use a notebook to jot down vocab you don’t know…etc.

I personally struggle with the CR section so I bought the 501 Critical Reading Questions purple book. I’ve been timing myself and checking answers and it helps!

For math, I used the red Barron’s SAT Math Workbook and went over ALL the sections and memorized the important concepts and formulas. From there it’s all repetitive so you just need to know WHAT the SAT question is asking.

For writing, I also used the red Barron’s SAT Writing Workbook and went over ALL the possible grammar rules the SAT tests on. When you take a diag, try to look for a MISTAKE in one of the grammar rules instead of looking for the correct answer. This book is REALLY helpful so if you can, it would be worth it to buy. There are practice tests JUST on writing sections in the back so those can help you too.

I hope that helped! Always remember to stay positive and don’t be discouraged by the low numbers! you can soooo own it! Good luck!
