Hi! I am a recently declared classical studies major, and next semester I will be taking both Greek and Latin at the same time. This will be my first semester of Greek, and my third of Latin. I need to take these courses, as I am planning to pursue a Masters, potentially even a PhD in this field, and the requirements I will need include two years of one of these and three of the other, so I decided I would go ahead and begin my studies! Any tips for general studying for either language, or for both, are much appreciated, as are any stories of similar experiences/ how you handled it. Also, any thoughts as to one language for three years over the other are appreciated as well. Thanks!
Hi! That’s awesome you’re learning Latin and Greek. I have no experience with these languages but I find them fascinating. I took AP Spanish this year while taking German 1, and it was no problem. I think since because you are at a higher level in Latin and a beginner level in Greek it will be fine. Albeit I occasionally spoke in German by accident in Spanish class xD for example I would say the German word for “yes” when I was supposed to be speaking Spanish. So just make sure when you are in Latin class you are in “Latin mode” and only focusing on that language. You may have the new words you are learning in Greek floating around but push them aside and try to think in one language at a time.
Oh I just realized you posted this in March. Well hopefully if you see this it was of some help for the future ;D I’d be interested to hear how your Latin and Greek classes went!
