Taking Two Languages?

I will be attending SPS next year and was wondering if anyone could perhaps help me with choosing courses - I was hoping to study two languages next year but I heard that if I do this then I will not have a free period. Can someone please confirm whether this is true? I think I will need a free period in order to adjust to the rigorous academics and homework load so if this is the case then I will probably just take one language.

Thanks :)

Well the time has to come from somewhere, so in all probability that’s right.

We just attended SPS re-visit and asked this question to the head of the Language Department… She said (and others agreed) that there are new changes coming for the students’ schedules next year. The only way to double up on language will be to select music (applied music for-credit) as your Arts option. This is because Dance, Fine Arts, and Theatre will all take a dedicated block on your schedule. If this block is free, you can take another language, and take music in your free periods (I think there is a theory class, and maybe a weekly lesson or two on your chosen instrument). Hope this helps!

I can’t claim to be up to speed with SPS but with all these schools one has to use their free periods and time wisely. IMO you’re going to want that free period.

Interesting, because some schools seem to dangle the “double language” carrot but when push comes to shove it’s a pretty hard thing to implement schedule-wise. As noted above, concessions have to be made. My daughter is doing it at SAS, and she’s able to manage the workload…but it definitely limits what electives she can take.
