"sigh IQ tests are overrated. Tracking students needs to be done on the basis of interest, not "ability" measured in stupid IQ tests that some strong student could do bad on just because of a bad day or because of whatever."

Also I have a question. I made a 990 on the SAT when I was in seventh grade. Was that a pretty good score for my age? Ive always wondered that.

It's all relative. Compared to the average population, it's great (and should qualify you for CTY distance courses, maybe CAA not quite sure). But compared to collegeconfidential, it could improve. It's a long time ago though and people can improve dramatically in a short time. In fact, I got 1050 in 8th grade (which I am now ashamed of) and a 213 PSAT in 10th grade (and missed 4 points on 1 math question due to stupid mistake so it could have been 217).

Yes, it's an excellent score. If you use a search engine to look for the Johns Hopkins CTY program, then look under "research" on that site, you can find what percentage of 7th graders taking the SAT get scores like that. I think you also can find that info on Duke's TIP site.

Keep in mind that virtually all kids who take the SAT that young are gifted, so even though your score may not be in the top 20% of those taking the test, it's a very smart group of kids who take the test anyway. Assuming that you continue along the path you're on and take a rigorous h.s. curriculum, you'll probably be National Merit or National Merit Commended based on your junior year PSAT score.

S's 7th grade SAT score: 1020, 11th grade PSAT index score: 206 (National Merit commended level), Jan SAT: 1420, May 2005 SAT I cr, m: 1540.

Oh wow...CTY. I got the strangest looks from the high school kids because I was the youngest there. You're also on a mailing list FOREVER. My parents wouldn't even let me take the courses because they said it was a waste of time, so it was all for nothing anyway.

TAG is dumb. we have it in my school district. the kids who get into it just have very pushy parents who trained them for the tAG test and these parents all like work at the school, so you have to think it was rigged.
