Does it look bad to talk about a sport you don’t plan to do in college in your college essays? I have been competitively swimming for fourteen years am applying to several selective schools. It’s a huge part of my life, but I don’t want to continue in college. I have not done as well the past few years, and I’m ready to start a new chapter of my life. Still, the sport is really important to me. A lot of my extracurriculars have to do with swim. Can I still mention it in my essays asking about “my home” or something I really care about even though I’m not competitively swimming in college?
Sure. The admissions office will not know that you aren’t participating in college (unless the school doesn’t have a team). A lot of students have sports or ECs that are very important in high school but that they won’t continue in college, like band, debate, gymnastics, boy scouts, and science club.
