talking to coaches at national meet

The NCAA championships for XC will be held locally for us, which will bring lots of teams, athletes, coaches. Recognizing that coaches will be busy... is there a place/time to talk to them? (HS junior) How would the conversation go? Do you just walk up and introduce yourself???? This will have S way out of his comfort zone, so if I can have him prepared, he will be more at ease and surely have a better conversation. Would it be appropriate to follow up a few days afterward to just remind the coach you exist and thank him for his time and give your contact info? Can he/will he ask for your contact info at a random meeting at this meet?

Thanks for any help.

Crazymomster, if your son is a HS junior, the NCAA has some pretty strict (and convoluted) guidelines about off-campus contact between a D1 coach and potential recruit. Your son can call him to his heart’s content, or meet with him on campus. Off-campus contact, however, is generally limited to a quick greeting. (Unless they’ve changed the rules, which the NCAA does with regularity)
