My daughter loves to tap dance, as well as other types of dance, but has decided she does not want to pursue as a major. That said, she wants to keep tap/dance in her life, so we are looking for a school or city that would offer class options for someone in her situation. Any suggestions?
What are her stats, what can you afford, what other things does she want in a school, and what are her academic interests?
Any college with a Musical Theater major will have at least some tap classes on campus. Majors will have priority in classes of limited size, but she might be able to sneak in if they have room. Otherwise, major cities will have classes off campus. You can post an inquiry on the Musical Theater majors’ forum.
Muhlenberg is supposed to have a strong tap program.
@usualhopeful, she has a 32 on ACT, 4.25 GPA. Wants to go into a math-related path of study, but not sure what (applied math/econ/finance/business). She is more interested in an urban location rather than a rural one. She wants a diverse student body and wants study abroad opportunities. We can afford ~$10K/year, otherwise will rely on scholarships.
Great suggestion, @woogzmama. I’ll do that!
My friend’s D who wanted to pursue dance (not tap) in college but not as an academic subject looked primarily at schools in major cities where she felt should could find and get to a wide array of classes that would meet her need. She ended up in DC and it worked out just fine. Of course outside classes would be an additional expense so you would have to factor that in to your cost structure.
