Itâs not âwastingâ ED if itâs your top choice. While it may be uphill, itâs not impossible and you should use your most potent weapon. After all, youâre talking about four years of your life. You neednât get accepted everywhere. But you do need to take your shot at any highly desired school that is possible, even if a stretch. And UVA is that.
Other Safe schools that your EA wonât impact and have spirit that are 5-20 and meet your need:
Miami Ohio
TCU
Syracuse
U Miami a target, not safety. I think Miami Ohio could be a solid choice for you and while you have no aid needs youâd save $ too. Lots of spirit, smaller âlargeâ public and easy admit but fine rep.
If you could go bigger, lots of schools.
Yes, UVA would be possible but a definite reach. Iâd even say a pretty high reach.
Iâd look at Penn State, University of Maryland as schools closer to matches.
If UVA is truly your top choice, then it would be wise to ED there. ED should significantly improve your chances. It would STILL be a reach, but talking about going from a real high reach to a have-a-real-chance-reach.
My 19 year old with very similar stats ended up at Clemson in honors, with a little OOS merit, and loves it. You canât beat the school and sports spirit, itâs insane. The weather is awesome, beautiful campus, and there are a TON of students from the northeast (we are in NJ). Weirdly enough my daughter is the first student from our HS to attend, she was down the shore a few weeks ago and ran into 8 students from Clemson who she knew.
