Tattoo?

I am going to be studying dance in New York and would need to wear a leotard for the majority of the time. I want to get a small tattoo on my back and I was wondering if that would be a bad idea considering that leotards generally have a low back.

You already know the answer to that

The Director of the Company that my daughter is a junior member of would never hire a tattooed dancer. Period.

Really looking forward to the day tattoos go completely out of fashion. Surely there are other, less permanent, ways to express individuality.

And I agree–I have never seen a dancer with a visible tattoo. It would look tacky, and there’s no way to easily cover it up with makeup.

I have also heard that companies will not hire people with visible tattoos. They are distracting when trying for the uniform look. I think Disney is the same way.

Maybe go lower (butt). You don’t want it to show in your work uniform which for you will be a leotard.

Don’t get me awrong - I am not a fan of tattoos. However, I will say that my daughter is a professional dancer with a respected contemporary/modern company and many (if not most) of the dancers in the company have tatoos.
Also, many of her friends from her training days are with well-known companies (not classical ballet, however) and also have tattoos. Seems to me most 20-somethings have tattoos these days and artistic directors are not discounting dancers because of them. My two cents.

Tattoos can also be easily covered with stage makeup, I would think (as long as it’s not a sleeve…)

Maybe you should wait until you are there and studying and then decide.
