Okay, I'm probably going out on a limb and reaching here, but can med school interview expenses be deducted? She will probably be at the $4,000 mark by the time things are done so we are hoping some of it can be offset come tax time.

Application and travel expenses, even for job-related education, are generally not deductible.

Expenses for traveling to college interviews…even medical school…are not deductible expenses.

Speaking from experience here… DS was a music major who was required to audition at each school to which he applied. None of this was deductible (not for grad school either).

Nice try, GA2012 ;)

Hey, a girl can try!

Actually, job hunting expenses can be deducted as miscellanous itemized deuctions subject to the 2%.

But no…interview expenses for education are not.

Since med school interviews are sooo expensive, it makes me wonder if they’ll ever go to Skyping.

Makes you wonder how lowish income people do the med school interviews.

I am as about low income that one can get. D worked all summer and has taken out a loan (thankfully her first) to cover expenses. Grandparents also have helped with interview suits, shoes, etc. Where there is a will there is a way.

Alas, still was hoping for the tax benefit, which is obviously not to be. :(

3bm, that is true but GA2012 was asking about educational application expenses, not job application expenses. College application fees and travel expenses for job-related education are not deductible.

No…but when she gets accepted to medical school…it will be well worth all of those trips!!
