Taxes & FAFSA Reporting Question

My employer changed insurance programs so now the premium paid for insurance is not reported in box 1 of the W-2, it is listed as "other" elsewhere on the form with the notation pre-tax next to it.

Where (or is) this amount added back into income on the FAFSA form?

If you are talking about health insurance premium payments…I do not believe those are on the FAFSA at all.

Correct. Contributing to a 401k is considered a choice so it’s added back in on FAFSA, paying for medical insurance is not considered a choice so it’s not added back in. Neither appears in AGI when pre-tax.

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing…but since all of the family is on my insurance the premium is high (several thousand dollars per year listed as pre-tax) and while it didn’t seem to be asking for this information on FAFSA, as it is not reported in box 1, I didn’t want to be remiss in reporting.

I don’t find the little “help” boxes all that helpful in some of the online forms!
