Taxi from NYC to Mount Holyoke

I want to take a taxi from New York to MHC, how much will it cost? Is that convenient? Or is there some safety issues?

Why not take the train(Amtrak) from Penn Station to South Hadley/Springfield stop?

If you want to arrive in the morning, hop on at Penn Station and transfer in New Haven… you will have more trains out of NHV to Springfield than from Penn Station.

Cheapest way is to take the peter pan bus. It takes you right on campus but you will have to start early 5:40am from port authority. Otherwise take the bus/train to springfield and then the taxi from there to MHC will cost ~$40.

What shadowcast suggests is absolutely the way to do it. Amtrak from Penn Station, NYC to Spfld. is about 3.5 hours. The car from spfld. to MHC is probably about 45 minutes or so. Another option is to take the train from NYC to Amherst and then take the taxi from there. There are far fewer trains running directly to Amherst – there’s one tomorrow, for instance, that leaves at 11:30 and gets in at 4:20. The taxi from Amherst to MHC would be about 15-20 minutes.

If you do choose to book a car service – why? – they would probably charge you $400-$500 plus tolls to cover the driver going both ways.

I agree with Kelbee. You can take the bus to Amherst as well and then hop on the 38 to go to MHC (the latter is free and runs every half hour during the school year). The bus stations may be a little shady in terms of looks but students take it all the time without much safety concerns. Time and comfort-wise bus and train are both equivalent, provided there is not much traffic.

A three-hour taxi ride?
That would be a lot.
There is no meter fare price for such long trips.
The cost is determined before the trip.
(The driver has to figure also the time to drive back.)

Just guessing, I imagine it would be at least around $300.

Much cheaper to rent a car.
