Just wondering- how are roommates selected at TCNJ?
contact the school’s office of residential life and ask.
You fill out a questionnaire about things like do you like to stay up late or go to bed early? Are you messy or neat?
and they may or may not take that into account but also they place you on the same floor as those in your Freshman Seminar Program (FSP) class.

How is my rooms/roommate assigned?
All first year students live in a learning community based around your first seminar (FSP). The course enables entering students to work closely with a professor and fellow students on an interesting topic. Your floor will be comprised of 2 or 3 FSPs, which means your roommate will have to be in one of these courses.
We have 5 buildings that serve as first year student housing – Travers and Wolfe, the largest of these options, ABE (Allen, Brewster, Ely), Norsworthy, and Centennial Halls. Students in honors housing are located in Centennial Hall.
Can I request a roommate?
You can request a roommate, but we cannot guarantee that both your courses can be on the same floor. If you are in the same course, we will try our best to honor requests, but basing your course selections on a roommate preference isn’t recommended.
@bopper So they assign roommates and put you both in the same FSP or you choose someone from your FSP?
You choose what FSP you want (or rank order your top choices) and your roommate is selected from that (or other FSPs on your floor).
@bopper When do you choose what FSP you want? What are the options? When should you and your potential roommate request each other?
You will soon get info from the University. Not much will be sent until after May 1 since that is when everyone has to commit to a college.
You will get information about signing up for courses…make sure to monitor your email and when you are given an TCNJ email monitor that too.
Here are examples from this year but they may change:

When you get info about housing, request your roommate.
https://starrezweb.tcnj.edu/StarRezPortal/Default.aspx is where you sign up for housing in may.
I would recommend to everyone to choose your classes ASAP when you are given info about that…it may say you have until a certain date but some classes may fill up.
If you have trouble getting into your desired classes, contact your adviser. They may be able to help.
@bopper So I shouldn’t be looking for a roommate now on facebook or anything right?
You have to be in the same FSP as a potential roommate…or at least the FSP that they are in has to be on the same fllor as yours… and as TCNJ says “If you are in the same course, we will try our best to honor requests, but basing your course selections on a roommate preference isn’t recommended.”
So I would wait until you have selected an FSP before I would look for roommates.
