Should i retake my SAT? Should i take an ACT?
I will most likely be an officer for 2 or 3 other clubs
guys anything u have to say is worth it

taking an ACT shouldn’t hurt…just try  maybe if you could break a 700 on the critical reading for SAT I, you would be in better shape. i like your GPA and your scheduling for senior year (assuming that next year is your final year). work on those SAT II scores, and you should be fine technically. your extra curriculars look great…have you done any research or shadowed any physicians? i’m saying this because this should give you great material for personal statements and interviews (stating the obvious here, but it’s still pretty important, lol). if you haven’t, though, you have plenty of time to pad up that resume even more before application time rolls around again…

and being indian should honestly not scare you, lol! in fact, that’s what your interviewer wants to see…the ideal candidate for medical school admissions is obviously one who excells in the sciences and has a myraid of experiences that validates one’s desire to be a physician…but they also place significant emphasis on how personable the applicant is…i seem to remember my interviewer asking me what i enjoy doing in my spare time other than something school related…i told him that i enjoy bharatnatyam, which lead to an entire discussion about indian dancing and its relation to indian culture…i see that you have some culturally related activities on your list, so that should give a glimpse of who you are as a person and how well you articulate your ideas in and out of the realm of medicine (or even the sciences, for that matter)…

bottom line: on your personal statements, show why you want to be a physician and what you’ve done in the past that proves you can be one (concise eloquence - if that makes sense - can work wonders here)…during interviews, show why you want to be a physician, and who you are as a person…be simple (not overly opinionated, but still one with ideas on contemporary issues), be articulate, and be assertive

sorry for the long post, but these are honestly things i wish somebody had told me during the application process…it would have relieved some nerves, i guess, lol…

i assume really good chance. and why not take the SAT one more time? its no big deal but a higher score never hurt anyone. unless you feel you cant pull it off.

umm question for anyone going overnight…
I emailed them. but i was wondering what i should bring…like everything i need to take a shower and get ready on thursday morning?

who else is coming btw?

i guess so collegeinfo91.
IM COMING!

sweet!
now i feel not so awkward thinking im gonna walk into the session with a backpack with towel and clothes lol.

“Just a quick reminder on what to bring - sleeping bag, a change of clothes, some cash (especially if you want to buy a SMED shirt for $10!) and whatever else you may need when staying overnight away from your room at home.”

that’s from an email i got yesterday

For those of you who will be studying at UMDNJ - check out Things to do at Newark.
I have just created this site with pictures taken at last week’s Cherry Blossoms Festival at the Branch Brook Park and the Sacred Heart Cathedral at Newark, NJ.

This will give you an idea of things to do on weekends in Newark. Branch Brook Park is about 2 miles from UMDNJ campus near the Ironbound section which boasts of some of the best Brazilian, Spanish, and Portugese restaurants.

Hi! I am a freshman student and I am very interested in these BS/MD programs. I was wondering if you can give some more information about these programs. I know this may sound crazy but here are my stats: I am currently taking ALL honors courses this year and I have a 4.324 GPA weighted and 4.0 unweighted (rank 2/350). I am in Symphony/Full Orchestra as 2nd Violinist, I attended the NJMS Scholars Program Graduate with HONORS recognition, NJ Science League, Red Cross Committee, Staff Writer/Editor of Newspaper Committee, Concert Choir, I took a practice sat at an institution as an 8th grader, currently entering 9th, and i got like 1710 without ANY SAT prep (just went in there, and took it with absolute no prior knowledge). Next year I am planning to take all honors courses with AP US History 1. I am also volunteering at a Senior Nursing Home, Valley Hospital Junior Volunteer, tutor at a neighboring math/english institution. I am also a peer tutor advisor in Honors Algebra I and Honors Biology. I am planning to do Spring Track Next year, and I am planning to become President of the Red Cross Committee and become a founder of Key Club at school. I might also start a Pre-Med club too. Um…I know this is just the beginning and I have more to say, but so far do you think I am on the right track? =)

Hi Desigirl,

Your stats so far look excellent but it all depends on how well you do in SATs and SATIIs.
Look up my old posts and you will get an idea which scores to shoot for.
Good luck!

people say for the SAT to shoot for a 2250+ for med programs. if you’re a serious student who wants to be the best and wants to get into any program they want, shoot for a 2400. hell, if you’re a good student, you’ll shoot for a 2400. however, a 2250+ isn’t too shabby for these programs.

Thank you so much! Please give me any more advice on how to get into these BS/MD programs throughout my high school career. I am extremely interested in these programs, especially in NJ, considering that i am a resident here. I am aiming for 2250+ on the SAT and currently, i am taking an SAT II Bio course and i am improving each time on the practice tests: benchmark: 500, 530, 580, 630–the 630 is my latest one. Since i am only a freshman, I still am going to improve these scores…they are rising so far. But on teh SAT II BIO, i am aiming for around a 750+. Thanks! Please give me more suggestions about the admission to these programs. Thank you so much, Pharmagal. =D

Focus your time on something more meaningful right now, such as extracurriculars. After taking AP Bio, I didn’t even bother to study for the SAT II Bio and pulled an 800, so I definitely wouldn’t worry about it as a freshman.

wow! dats an amazing score…but im not sure…currently i am aiming for like a 750-790 range as a frosh for the SAT II Bio. I have always been good in Science cuz i always recieve As - A+s on exams all the time…but ill c…idk.

First off…as a freshman. dont worry about that stuff…scores and all that jazz…
youre a freshman. get friends, go out, develop a social life. as a freshman a 4.0 is a given. nothing special. but get friends and develop yourself as an individual. no matter what scores you have…they mean nothing unless you have a personality and are social. INTERVIEWS are the most important thing, and any scores come secondary to that.

DO IT. this is coming from a freshman in the program. i wasnt in the top in my class. and my scores were okay compared to the smart@$$ people in this program. but i got in because i could talk. dont stress. once again youre a freshman, enjoy highschool. =]

hi…ik alot of people tell me to enjoy high school. but im like the kindo one who socializes as well as keeps a vigilant eye on grades…im just sooo nervous! lol. amaizincowman…can you give any suggestions on what u did when u were in high school? how did u get into the program? plz! im open for suggestions! =D

hey
Did anyone else get a call from Dr. Shevlin last night? He left a message saying that I got into the program :)))

No call on this end.

hey jjohn 110, i have a question…whatt did u get on the SAT? can you post ur stats plz?! That would be rly helpful!
