Teacher reccommendations?

Since parents seem to always know everything....

How long should teacher recs be? Like a page or less? Because after reading some of those "how to write your application" books (namely Rock Hard Apps), I've had the sinking suspicion that anything under 2 pages and not chock full of personal anecdotes is unworthy...

Please tell me I'm wrong.

I've never seen one that was more than one page. They should have substantive information, though -- a good one tends to be about 3 or 4 paragraphs and has includes some specific details to support whatever generalizations are made about the student.

Many schools have a teacher rec form (as does the common app) with a page for identifying information, some short answers (how long have you known applicant and in what capacity...) and some "ratings", usually considered very important - as I understand it - along the lines of "Student is average/above average/outstanding/one of the few of this caliber I have seen in my career." Then the narrative portion can be attached, making a second page. But not a 2-page narrative.
