My D is a junior. Sshe has good grades in math and science and very good GPA. She wants to pursue a science career. Wants to give teachers recommendation from a social studies teacher who knows her very well apart from classroom. Is that OK or does she's has to submit one fro m her science teacher.

It depends on where she is applying. Some schools require 1 or 2 LOR from the teacher of your choice. Some require 1 from a math/science teacher and 1 from a liberal arts teacher. You need to look at the school websites where she is applying to determine what they are looking for.

She is best getting recommendations from teachers that know her, both academically and personally, subject should not matter.

Generally speaking I agree, the teacher that knows her best is likely to be best. I also think that history and lit teachers are more likely to be good writers. My kids needed two teacher recommendations MIT required one science on one not science which determined who my older son chose. Younger son, so not a math guy, actually ended up getting a great recommendation from his math teacher, but he also had one from his history teacher which is where is real strength is.

Thanks for the suggestions.
