Team Heading to Playoffs - Travel Nightmare?!?

Hi All -

My DS's sports team did really well this season and is headed into the playoffs starting this weekend. (Yay team!) But if they do well in the playoffs, the semi-finals are the Saturday before Thanksgiving (the day he is supposed to fly home). And if they do REALLY well, the championship game is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The already-purchased ticket to fly back to school is for Monday.

Have any of you ever dealt with this before? Does the school ever help out with the cost and difficulty of changing travel plans at the last minute in situations like this? We are not on FA, but are struggling quite a bit to pay the tuition bills, so I cringe at the thought of this added expense.

Other options to altering his travel plans would be to either not have him come home at all and find a local family to stay with (sob). Or have him miss the games (which probably isn't an option).

I realize I am worrying about this a bit prematurely, but I hate to find myself hoping they get beaten early on.

Last year, Thacher’s football team had an amazing season and made it all the way to the state finals. The team (admittedly a small team - it’s 8-man football!) elected to stay on campus and train over the break because of their playoff schedule (similar to what you posted). Our son did not play football, but a friend’s brother who was a junior skipped Thanksgiving with his family in Colorado and stayed at Thacher.

Oh dear - that’s hard to hear, mountainhiker! I guess it is good to start preparing myself emotionally for that possibility now.

Actually - if they get that far, I guess it is time for a cross-country drive! I’ll just have to play it fast and loose with the Thanksgiving plans this year!
