There's a thread up on the LJ Reed community that I think is a good read for prospective students: reedlj: Dropping the spring semester of Hum 110? . A Reed freshman says he doesn't like HUM 110, doesn't want to take the second semester of it, he just wants to be a Physics major. He may very well be a troll, but the discussion is very useful for several reasons:

A number of students articulate reasons why HUM 110 is useful even to hard science majors.

The thread has a lot of the snark, humor, and challenging behavior that is part of Reed.

It's a reality check about reading the admissions brochures and material, doing a prospie visit, etc.

Personally, I think the kid should transfer, because I think someone who thinks the one mandatory freshman class should be mathematics belongs at a school like Harvey Mudd (or Cal Tech, or Georgia Tech), not at Reed.
