I am a senior interested in University of South Carolina. I walked around the campus for an hour the spring, but I did not see the whole thing. I’m a little worried that the campus might be larger than I would like since I only saw a small part of it. However, I loved absolutely loved the part I saw. What can you tell me about the college? I want to know about everything good and bad about the place. Thanks!
Campus isn’t really that large in my opinion and you can plan where your classes are fairly easily. You’ll have at least 30 minutes between classes unless you have a strange schedule, that’s enough to walk from Darla Moore to Capstone without stopping.
Good:
- The place is beautiful. When I first went, it was on an admitted students weekend and I wasn’t that impressed as I’d seen another campus that looked better. But then I realized that the other campus was only showing me the good parts. I don’t think it’s possible to look at the Horseshoe (which is probably what you saw) or the neo-colonial buildings and say they aren’t beautiful.
- Weather is pretty nice excluding the first month and a half. Right now it feels like the whole atmosphere is room temperature.
- There’s a wide variety of majors and classes available to you. And a wide variety of support structures. There’s no reason not to do well here.
- The campus is located in a city, which was a big plus for me. Pharmacy/grocery store, bars, food, all that’s in walking distance.
- The food isn’t that bad for cafeteria food. Lots of variety.
Bad:
- When it rains, it pours. Hurricane Matthew made us cancel class for three days straight.
- The meal plan is good, but I keep finding myself going 17 cents over my allotted spending amount. For instance, for dinner, one meal swipe allows you to spend $7.15, but you always end up spending $7.30 which you have to use your extra meal plan dollars to cover the extra 15 cents.
Honestly I can’t think of anything bad. Small things that annoy me, but I’m sure they are present at every school. Also if you’re still worried about campus distance we have buses that run throughout campus so you can always catch those.
