Tell me somethin' good . . .

I met a wonderful woman last night through a mutual friend. Turns out my BFF’s mom from the place I previously lived (500 miles from where I live now) was this woman’s art teacher in elementary school. She teared up when we made the connection. Her father had died when she was in 2nd grade and my BFF’s mom paid special attention to her and encouraged her during this difficult time. This all occurred 47 years ago! The teacher entered her piece in a local festival and she won second place. She still has that framed piece. It reminded me that it really is a small world and that the kindness from a teacher makes a lasting impact.

I need to bookmark this thread so I can live vicariously through all the good news posted here!

We are soon going on an 11 day Rick Steves trip to France. With a major health crisis in our family, and our kids having new jobs, I didn’t think this would ever happen, so I haven’t gotten my hopes up to look forward to the trip. I even bought travel insurance for the first time in my life because I was so sure something would fall through. But it’s getting close, and I think it just might happen!

Found a guy to take care of my yard for $20. The last person I hired charged me $140 and wanted to come once a week! I was so stunned I did it all myself for the next year and a half. If I could count the leaves…

S17 didn’t think twice when the bone marrow registry contacted him and said he is a potential match for a person with an illness. He called me to say that he is going to proceed with the testing and see what happens. I am SO proud of him. H dropped off the registry this year (when you turn 61, you are purged) and all 3 of my younger children signed on to replace him.

^^ Sometimes the ‘something good’ is so good it brings tears to my eyes.

I can’t top the bone marrow registry…

but after about 15 years of fatigue, I found something that helps. Coffee. I know it sounds crazy but I couldn’t drink regular coffee for years because I have autonomic dysfunction and extreme heart rate fluctuations.

Then I had some coffee by chance last week when H pulled out an old coffee maker. I noticed I had energy and could think much more clearly.

This week I’ve had a half cup in the late morning everyday and I’ve felt so much better. I’ve got so much done and my house in good shape. I feel like I can keep better track of everything. And my heart rate is no higher than usual.

I know my body might adjust to it but right now it’s working.

Coffee rocks!

Today we had our annual education day for folks who have a chronic health condition I care about. We had over 100 people present and a lot of awesome speakers and exhibits. We had many folks in wheelchairs and on supplemental oxygen. The speakers and patients and exhibitors were all happy to have attended. :x

We just became first time grandparents.

I cleaned fifteen years of fuzz off my refrigerator coils and cleaned out the drip pan for the first time since we inherited it. Ewwww and woohoo.

Coffee does rock.

S17 made a contact at a clothing store by campus that told him he would give him a Smathers and Branson belt if he and a friend could help market some college gear to the fraternities. Also told him he would submit him for an award the CEO of a clothing manufacturer gives each year to the member of the Frat he is pledging. So funny since S is an animal science major!

He also made a dance team! This is hysterical because he has never danced in his life! He has to be in the front row, partner with the Sr. Girl that set the dance up, and do it homecoming week in front of 4000 people! (20 people in the dance).

D15 decided to go back to the job she quit a couple of months ago after an incident with a boy. We will see… but at least it is getting out of bed and away from partying all night.

My D just picked up her first foster dog yesterday. He is a cutie.

Pumpkin muffins taste especially good with a cup of coffee with lots of cream.

I finally got back power after a week. Hoping everyone else does too.

I picked up a new client this past week. Seems to be a good company.

I love our pharmacist! He spoke at our event yesterday and gave me several of his business cards today and said to have patients call him whenever they want and he will help them even if they get their meds filled elsewhere. Such a very nice guy!

He saves the patient money and stress whenever he can as well by having the Rx rewritten as needed to provide the max that insurer will reimburse for 90 days.

Freshman D (at college only 2 hours away) surprised us with a visit yesterday! (Just for fun–she got a ride with a high school friend). It was nice to see her for a few hours–big hugs!

Yippee–after three VERY hot weeks, we finally got back our screens so we can have our front screen door open again!

Also we are making friends with some neighbors up the hill from us by playing an online game. We will be dining with another couple we met this way at a new Japanese restaurant tomorrow. D is very amused. It is fun and interesting making new friends as empty nesters.

I am so enjoying that Outlander Season 3 is here and watching each episode several times!
