Just curious (and no, this isn’t a panicking thing, I know it’s fine) but is anybody else doing the critical analysis on non-fiction?

I’m doing mine on “the Areas of My Expertise.” Its content is fictitious, its format is non-fiction.

I HAVE SOME QUESTIONZ FOR FORMER TASPERZ OMGZ:

Will TASP not accept me if I have essays with contractions? If I have contractions, do they count as one word or two? What about indefinite articles? Definite articles? Do words with umlauts count as real words?

I was fortunate enough to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, but should I mention it, seeing as TASP is a humanities program?

THANKS Y’ALL.

Hahaha mulberry, yeah shockingly even I got 2 done…but they barely took any time, I was bored, and they’re rough drafts (didn’t think too much about quality writing and just wrote out my thoughts in succession without much stopping). I’d say I’m far from finishing, and in all likeliness will be one of the last-day applicants.

For summarizing work and volunteer experince & listing main areas of intellectual interest parts, should we write in paragraphs or point forms?

Recent honors and awards: what classifies as recent? Is one year reasonable?

What classifies as “intellectual interest”? Do singing and dancing and sports count? I doubt they do but I am not sure.

List your school and community activities below in order of their importance to you: does reading (not for school) count? I do spend a lot of time reading. Can I place reading as one intellectual interest? Also, what happens if a competition is really important for me? Should I write down “competitor” as the position held?

Maybe some of these questions should be submitted to “Ask a TASPer” so that there’s a common FAQ.

Is there one specifical thread?

Look at [Telluride Association: Our Programs: For High School Students: Summer Program for Juniors (TASP): FAQ](http://www.tellurideassociation.org/programs/high_school_students/tasp/tasp_faq.html). It has answers to at least a couple of your questions.

Wow the actual website FTMFW…I skimmed it and it has literally almost every single answer to the questions we need. Overall it’s basically saying: it’s up to you, we’re open to almost everything. Thanks, hopefully people would stop posting things like “I’m writing about pokemon, does my topic failz!!!” =)

Ooh, Pok

QUESTION: WHAT THE HECK DO WE WRITE FOR INTELLECTUAL INTERESTS.

intellectual extracurrics? just things we like to do in our spare time that are smart?

Thank you Yeoman~~

Hi,

Hate to be a Scrooge but:

@Epi:
Ha, you’re very funny. Why don’t you put down that you won the Nobel Prize for Physics, see if you get into TASP.

Also to everyone,
This thread is getting more ridiculous then McDonalds serving McDucks. If need be, The Telluride Association will request this thread to be closed, and after that you guys won’t be able to ask your questions about the process. Also, heed the warning that the Telluride Association does have housemembers and essay readers who occasionally go through this thread and read the post.

Antagonist, this is College Confidential. Last time I checked the Telluride Association was not affiliated with CC, and thus has no business trying to interfere with threads about itself on an internet forum Telluride doesn’t even run/own/sponsor in any way whatsoever. This is the exact same kind of behavior I would expect from self-righteous creationist agencies such as the Discovery Institute. Seeing Telluride sink to such levels is causing TASP to become ever less attractive to me. I will be rescinding my application if you do not retract your unwarranted and evidently antagonistic comment. Get off your high horse.

Actually, Telluride has requested that the TASP thread be closed in the past, and CC complied. A reasonable request, not a command or a subpoena.

Please do rescind your application if you feel mortally offended; TA doesn’t need nor want people with such tendencies to overreaction.

Aristocrat, So let me get this straight: you’re going to withdraw your application because Antagonist, an alumni acting to help applicants despite TASP prohibitions, mentions that there is a danger of Telluride interfering? If you’re that simplistic, I certainly hope you withdraw your application—I don’t think you’re what TASP is looking for.

Also, his name is Antagonist after all.

For my part, I’m sick of this thread. It’s not healthy and people should stop asking ridiculously specific and unanswerable questions. You’re asking questions that not even the readers of your app could answer, simply because they do not matter. Just write what you want to write and if TASP likes it they’ll accept you. It’s as simple as that.

okayyy i get all this but i have an honest question.
should we discuss our desires about campus location in our essays about what program we would like.
i do not think this is an unreasonable question.
thanks.

Since location is an inherent component of program, yes.

Tell me how that’s different from this. Members of CC are not engaging in libelous activity that would serve to deface, discredit, or portray in negative light the Telluride Association or any of its programs. What reason is there to attempt to end some frivolous discussion that hardly detracts from the usefulness of a TASP thread? Also, the Streisand effect just means your closure of a TASP thread will spawn tens more. Don’t bother trying :)

I apologize if I misunderstand, but aren’t you the one who is overreacting by stalking the CC TASP thread 24/7 and immediately responding to strike what you perceive to be “overreactive” posts?

EDIT> kameronsmith, Antagonist’s post was extremely suggestive of a position as TA staff, so I responded as such. As CC no longer allows me to edit the previous post, I guess that’ll just stay there. Misunderstandings should be resolved through civil means rather than dismissive flaming.

@Aristocrat. Re: Members of CC are not engaging in libelous activity that would serve to deface, discredit, or portray in negative light the Telluride Association or any of its programs. What reason is there to attempt to end some frivolous discussion that hardly detracts from the usefulness of a TASP thread?

According to the Association’s FAQ, they believe that your experience at a TASP will be better if you haven’t had substantial networking beforehand. Now, I can’t assess the validity of this, but it’s their program, so I’d trust their judgment. And (especially) since they pay for every student to attend, I think that they have the right to regulate their program in whatever way they see fit, including requesting that this thread be closed, or looking at the people who used this thread and considering this their admittance decisions.
