^ TASS is for rising juniors, and TASP is for rising seniors.

Well, this is my first post on CC but def not the first time I’ve perused some of the threads for background info. Haha, I wonder if the 2009 TASPers from the last thread will be replaced by a fresh wave of 2010 TASPers on this one?

TASP 2011 hopefuls, I’m sure we’ll all get to know each other soon enough as we start stressing out over application essays, interviews, and admissions in coming months. And, although it’s a bit premature, the best of luck to everyone who is applying! It’ll be nice, I admit, to have a host of other hopefuls sharing in my anxiety.

P.S. Did anyone apply to the US Senate Youth Program? :)

I plan on applying, too. . . and I’m a prospective 2012 TASPer. .

Is there a chance that they’ll have TASP at Washington in STL again? :)

^this year’s TASPs are in Cornell and UMich, but maybe in 2012. who knows? (:

i am applying this year!! sigh

December’s here…meaning the application is going to be out very soon. Ugh.
Has any of you potential applicants thought about what other programs to apply to? I haven’t seriously thought about any backups yet, partly because TASP stole all the glory. XD

Applications are up! So, for EC’s…should we only list EC’s we’re involved in RIGHT NOW, or ones we’ve done within the past year or so? (Through a weird series of events, I’m not in many right now - there were three I thought I would be doing this fall/winter, one pretty time-consuming, but then…they all fell through.)

These essays look pretty intense… blahhh

I saw something on the app about the time frame being flexible - whatever you think is relevant, so I’d go with that.
I’d suggest to put the ECs that you’re most involved with/passionate about.

Good luck to all prospective TASP 2011 applicants.

Lawl, after seeing the application, I decided not to apply.
- Literary discussion/etc isn’t really my thing
- I haven’t had time to read a book for pleasure since July, so I would fail that essay.
- I suddenly remembered that I am a terrible writer.
- I would inevitably not make it, and these essays look hardcore time-consuming.
- I have backups that I would enjoy just as much/more.

But good luck to everyone who is applying!! :)

The website said 1000 kids applied last year, how many do you speculate will be this year?

I will be applying as well, but I don’t know what type of people that they are looking for? acedamic? critical? responsible?

Hi all I’m applying to this thing too.
For the first essay, how long are you planning to make it? Are they expecting a 1500 word essay(the max) or something a bit shorter?

Don’t plan length, just write. I just wrote what i had in mind and had to shorten most of them. It worked out. Im not really sure if they look for people, i think they seek diversity but beyond race and background, something weird…

^ so you actually wrote more than 1500 words at first??? It’s kinda hard for me to write a 1500 word essay about a book or an experience. More like 500.

Yes. But my writing style is different from yours so don’t worry.
Best of luck people! I will check this thread at least every two days to answer questions if there are any relevant ones (and a few irrelevant ones ).

On the essays’ length–

Don’t make them 1500 words by adding fluff words and irrelevant passages. What you should strive to do is write an essay of such complexity that it takes 1500 words to express, even when you are being as economical with your words as possible.

A dense 1000 word essay is better than a fluffy 1500 word essay, but 1500 dense can do more than 1000 dense.

So are the majority of the students black? (not that it would be a problem for me)
but were students of other races kind of left out?
and is ethnicity a factor in the acceptance process?

At Cornell, we literally had a spectrum of skin colors. I don’t think there was a majority anything, but then again i dont really pay attention to that stuff. Ethnicity may be a factor but I can tell you that the people from same ethnicities had totally different backgrounds.
