All done with essays w00t! :D

You are in the summer program forum. Look around.

Gah. I’m going to have to crunch so much tomorrow. So much homework and I still have to write an entire essay…

Whew, finally mustered up the courage to press the “Submit” button on the app.

Since this seems to be a TASP CC tradition: Who else is applying this year? Shall we start the list?

are we allowed to curse in our essays? not extensive use, but I want to say that a book is a “screw you” to media but i feel it would be much stronger if i used the “f” word to get my point across.

No saying it was flippant to the media shouldn’t hurt you.

No but really that’s definitely a poor choice of wording, but it can’t possibly be the difference between your getting and not getting in.

Sooo… I’m a bit confused about what they want for a critical analysis.
I was going to do a report on An Abundance of Katherines by John Green & explain why he thinks mattering matters & how I think he’s right.
Is that… valid?

i’m actually restructuring and changing my argument altogether and throwing away that sentence but thanks!

I’m not doing my analysis on it but in my essay I talk about Two Treatises of Government by John Locke, and I might quote it. Do i need to cite my sources and if so does it count as part of my 1,500 words?

Never posted here, but I’ve been reading this thread and I just applied tonight. Good luck everyone! =]

Any suggestions on how honest one should be in their essays? I think I’m showing more of my personality than I ever have in my writing. I’m a bit torn of whether this could be a positive attribute or make me appear psychotic, though.

If all of my essays are excellent, but one’s a little off-topic, is that okay?

Also, does race/socioeconomic status play a role in admission to TASP?

and how ‘succinct’ is ‘essay’ 5 supposed to be? I have about 400 words for the first two programs…

How long are your conflict essays?

@educatedfools: mine was about 1100 words. and @silencefell: I wrote a lot for my first choice, but I wrote like 4 sentences for my last.

And now we wait.

Do they look at your SAT and PSAT scores?

@custardapple101 no
@educated fools 1400 words
@silencefell even tho they say succint, just make it as long as it needs. i would spend more time on the top 2 pref essays and less on the bottom 2. you probably shouldn’t write an off-topic essay regardless. race/socioeconomic does not play a role because you don’t report it.
@splazsh no, you don’t need to report your sources; just cite the info where needed.

There is a space on the app where you state your race and whether or not you qualify for reduced/free meals at school. And from the brochure:
