Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2012

Oops, overreacting once again… Thanks for the uplifting correction guys!
I skimmed the letter hastily in my eagerness and apparently read it wrong… and then promptly deleted it because in my crazy head: rejection= bad, must delete evidence.

This makes me feel better though lol

actually, the rejection letter is nicer than the acceptance one.
“I am pleased to tell you that you have been chosen as a finalist for the 2012 Telluride Association Summer Programs. You are now one of approximately 140 finalists competing for the 64 scholarships we will offer this year. This year finalists were selected from over 1,300 applications. Congratulations!” then it just talks about being contacted for an interview.

nothing about the “privilege” of reading the essays.

^Haha, but instead of getting “privilege of reading [the essays of some of the most qualified students in the US],” you get “I am pleased to tell you.”

:p

I didn’t get in, but I would like to congratulate all of you who DID manage to get through the first round. Ultimately, the acceptance rate is around 4.9%, so if you got yourself an interview then you should be rather proud of yourself. I wish for you guys the best of luck in the interview, and at TASP (if any of you guys DO manage to get in).

As for myself, I personally applied for the application experience. I wanted to attend TASP pretty badly, of course, but nonetheless I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t get in. That being said, the experience of writing those six essays and going through the application proccess was already satisfactory for me. I’ll be applying to another summer program in the next few weeks, so I would say that what I’ve learned from TASP (the application process, that is) will certainly help me in the future.

To the guy who said something about college admissions a few posts above me, I don’t think that the college admissions process will entirely be the same. Of course, you’ve got to be academically strong and intellectually sharp, but the admissions officers at the Ivies will do more than simply admit you based on the essays (as the TASP officers have done here). Like the guy above me (or the one before that), I too believe that someone could have gotten in TASP with a C at school, if they were intellectual (might not be the best word to use here, but I can’t think of anything else at the moment) in their essays. The same can’t be said for the admission processes in the Ivy League colleges; if you had a C in one of your classes, then the chances for you to get accepted dramatically drops. Moreover, the Ivy League colleges look at what you’ve done outside of school, too, so if you have lots of extracurricular involvement, that can help you out as well.

It’s been a while since I’ve started typing, so I guess I’ll stop here. Again, to those who got in: congratulations, I hope you guys do well in the interviews and hopefully at TASP. But for those who didn’t get in (like me), don’t be discouraged; it’s a great thing if you got accepted into a prestigious program or school, but if you didn’t get accepted, that doesn’t mean that you’re not as good of a person as someone who DOES get accepted. It just means that the particular individual who got in was somehow better suited to a program like TASP than you are. Keep on working hard, and someday, you’ll probably get into a successful program as well.

Woah, I take that back; I was talking about “Applestoapples” right there, but apparently his/her post was all the way back last page. MAN, you guys talk a lot. (Don’t worry, I do too.)

will people who got interviews post what their first choice was?
mine was cornell I

Michigan II

Cornell I, but I said that Cornell II and Michigan I were very, very closely behind and I would be happy in any of the three.

lol I think tongxiang77 was the only one who chose the art seminar

" We understand the temptation to discuss your essays, your hopes, and your fears with your online peers. But we say from experience that if you are selected for TASP, the program will likely be more valuable for you if your first encounters with your fellow TASP community members are on the first day of the program. "

Huh.

haha i told them straight up that i wouldn’t consider going to either of the michigan programs

Lol @ post #735
Rejection!!! MUST DELETE EVIDENCE!!!

I’m the exact same way. I deleted it before, like, actually reading it… then skimmed it from my Trash folder. xD

Gah, I’m freaking out.
I didn’t get any email or phone call at all- no confirmation, no rejection. My application was definitely received, but I asked to be notified by phone, so perhaps that had something to do with it? I emailed them and asked to be sent an email about whether or not I was granted an interview, but something tells me it’s going to be a rejection. Ah well, onwards and upwards!

However, did anyone who asked to be notified by phone receive their phone call yet? If so, I’m worried.

Rejected.

Merp merp merp :(

Rejection suckss >…<

so my interviewer already emailed me. any advice for it?

After reading through some of the last few pages, it seems that the bulk of the people who got accepted #1.) thought their essays weren’t up to par & #2.) sent in their essays last minute.
Hmmmm.

Also, reading some of the posts from the rejected, WOW they have really good writing, & I’m kinda surprised that they did not get accepted.
That is not to say that those who did get accepted are any less valid, just that it’s kinda not feeling like… fair.

I for one know that my book analysis was absolute BS. & I barely proofread my essays because I was running out of time. I feel like the only reason I got accepted was because I got really personal with talking about my ED.

Those are just my unorganized thoughts. Please ignore me. (:

So did no one put Mich II as first choice?
I guess you either are really really interested or not interested at all in that seminar…haha

edit: this is so stupid but i’ve decided that i should probably just stop posting in this thread i mean who knows who is watching
