Temple Option Temple University Admissions

I’m a graduate of the class of 2016 and I will be apply to temple for the fall of 2017 since I am taking a semester off to train I was a solid 3.0- 2.9 student but my test scores weren’t that well and I am curious if I should apply using the Temple option or just apply regularly i am also just plain old worried that I won’t even get in…if you guys need anymore information on me to help me out like EC’s Jobs etc just feel free to ask

To train?

I’m a football player haha

I have visited Temple myself and really like that school. I think the Temple option is great because it is a chance for them to view you as a person and student outside of GPA and test scores. You can put your personality into the essays and explain your struggles and how you have overcome them. Look at the average GPA and test scores of admitted students. If you aren’t somewhat close to that range, I’d apply using the temple option.

Yeah my GPA is around a 2.9-3.0 but I believe with my EC’s and Personal
Profile I should be able to get in just nervous because of the situation I was in…

Nah fam. It’ll be alright. Plus, you play a sport! so that’s great. I’m class of 2017 and already have applied to 12 colleges. You can only hope for the best and be yourself in your application. Be honest, and if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen.

Thank you that means a lot forreal

No problem! Good Luck and make sure to come back on and say if you got in!

Will do

Are you recruited for football? Your GPA puts you in the bottom 10% of matriculating students. http://www.temple.edu/ira/documents/data-analysis/common-data/2014-2015.pdf If your test scores are below that level it puts you in a hard spot. ECs are only considered. It’s mostly GPA, rank and scores (section C7). Temple Option won’t be much of a help:

No I’m not recruited for football

@ariaamusic With the Temple Option - isn’t that just to bypass sending in ACT/ SAT scores? I have an 11th grade son really interested in Temple but his GPA this year and probably senior year will be 3.0. He is a non Honors, non AP, B- student (I supposed an 80 student, if that is another way to describe it) but he has a better chance at getting a 25 or 26 on his ACTs. Seems like Temple is harder to gain admission to these days - even for PA residents. Am I correct in this assessment of Temple - main campus ?

And already thinking too many steps ahead for a “safety” option of starting at Pennsylvania College of Technology and if he is really not happy after 1 year, trying to transfer to Temple. Any insight into admissions for sophomores at Temple ?

@dspflyer People who apply through the Temple option usually have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, but their testing scores do not reflect their intelligence. I would argue that even GPA does not adequately measure intelligence either, but it still matters. Through the Temple option, you answer several self-reflective questions that will give admissions officers an idea of who you are as a student. If his testing scores are better than his GPA and will give him an edge, I’d apply normally, but he needs to have great extra-curriculars and recommendations. I would also suggest him trying to take at least one AP class. Colleges want to see that you challenged yourself academically in high school if it was available.

Thank you for your response. It was very helpful. The unfortunate think with my son is that he works so hard in just the regular college-prep classes. There is no way he can handle an AP or honors class. I hope that this can be conveyed in Temple Option.

Applied Temple Option with 3.0 Weighted GPA. Just got accepted today!
