We are trying to create my daughter's 'long' list - she is rising Junior. She plans to pursue a history major. We are not a Religious family, but private school with religious would be ok as long it is a fairly liberal school. She has Aspergers's (but no one would ever know unless I told them) but gets no special services at school ( her choice). She is very intelligent and all of her friends are tracking to Ivy leauge schools ( many of them meet all criterea so far PLUS are legacy) but she knows that is not her path. However, she is still looking for that 'type' of student body.

In 8th grade she scored a 30 on her ACT, and last year her sophmore PSAT was 218. So we expect her PSAT/SAT/ACT this year to improve on that. The thing is, she tests better than her grades show because she really struggled with organization in 9th grade, was better in tenth grade. She took Pre-calc in 10th grade, has done AP stats ( did not take test) and AP Euro (scored a 5). This year she will take AP Computer Science, AP World History, AP Biology , and AP Psych along with her other core classes.

Last factor is cost. We won't qualify for need based aid. We are prepared to pay about 20k per year. Anything above that she will need some merit aid. So I am thinking a non-elite LAC may be her best bet to get some merit aid, but we really are open to suggestions. She wants to be out of state, prefers east coast somewhere, but is open to anything that is at least a couple hours away from Minneapolis.

ANy thoughts from those who have walked this path before us?
