I'm excited to start class in a few days and have already logged onto Moodle for ISDS 1102 class, an introductory computer class for business majors.

I'm sure many students enter LSU with a good deal of computer knowledge and find the class a bit tedious. Though I am not a computer science major, I have a very strong computing background that includes IT work at an internship and local hospital. I also have a job as a professional writer on a technology site.

I looked through all the PowerPoint slides the professor uploaded onto Moodle and didn't see anything I already didn't know. I understand that part of the freshman experience is taking these intro classes, but this is a course I would very much not want to have to take. I just see it as time wasted I could spend doing other things.

LSU lets you test out of certain maths and foreign languages. Is there a way to place out of ISDS as well?

Not that I know of.

Is is ISDS required of you to take? As in either part of your major or because you are living in Broussard?

The course is fairly easy (It’s gotten harder over the past few years, but nothing drastic). From what I hear anyway, I never had to take the class, but have had close friends who have. The material presents itself as understandable and easy to do. However the hard part of the course comes in the program they use to test you and your professor’s written test (sometimes). The program requires you to do certain tasks exactly the way it taught and no side-stepping or shortcuts. You have a certain amount of attempts in order to get it right before it marks it wrong. This program can be annoying. As far as professors, it’s iffy. I’ve heard that the professor if he writes his own tests (as opposed to standard tests), then it can be ridiculous.

But you shouldn’t have any problem and I’ve probably given more info than necessary.
