No idea? I only have Parent Howdy (which is super limited, just a few links), I’ve never seen AIS or Howdy. Once they’re admitted students, I think they just have Howdy??
I’m sure there must be some kind of tutorial somewhere, or maybe they go over it during NSC?
There is, let me try to find it!
Correct. There is no AIS. It’s an applicant information system.
Howdy is the only thing once they start college.

There are also training videos for Howdy which is the only thing that will be used when at A&M
thanks - if you have links to Howdy training videos then that’s what my son will really need. Currently Howdy just changed to all this stuff and it’s a little overwhelming.
@misterhemmings - . So glad your son got some good news! I’ve been pulling for him and hope he has great success on which ever path he chooses. @52AG82 - I hear your PSA loud and clear and I’m slowly snipping the cord. . Once we get past NSC, I’ll be relinquishing most of my secretarial duties for an advisory position. For right now my kiddo’s schedule is beyond busy and the list of things to do keeps growing. I’m sure most of us parents feel that way. Proms, senior trip, finals, graduation, parties, MPE, NSC, parking permits, camp sign ups, etc. It’s a lot for a 17 to manage while trying to finish the year strong, work a little job, and enjoy a little social time with high school friends. Hopefully we’ll all survive and cherish these next couple months until dorm drop off. Then we can drive out of College Station with a few tears and confidence that our young adults can survive and thrive without us holding their hands.
@Kimvogel trust me on this, snip it now . They will be as busy, if not busier, when they get to college…at least that’s the goal!
I took the reigns on dorm selection. My Aggie had the absolute 1st time slot in 2019 (they’ve since changed it up some), and she had a school conflict during selection. Roomie, roomie mom & I had every laptop and cell charged up…and we we were able to secure the exact room in Hullabaloo they wanted . That was my one & only time to ‘help’.
Absolutely follow the FB parent pages, keep tabs on deadlines & registrations, other helpful tidbits. But, relay that info to your kiddo, and let them handle it.
Don’t be that parent who tries to go into registration during NSC. Trust the advisors, then trust your student to research Grade Distribution and Rate My Professor in future registration periods. Join a major specific parent page (if there isn’t one, start it!). Great way to get helpful info & insight.
I PROMISE, if your student got into A&M, they can handle it! And the sooner they start ‘adulting’-checking emails daily, being in charge of their To Do checklist, checking FinAid portal & accepting scholarships (if offered), submitting their Meningitis vaccine (btw, don’t pay $10 to submit…that’s a gimmick, it is free to submit), registering for Impact/Fish Camp, printing important info, etc- the easier their transition will be in August. Parents should never be on Howdy. Parents can get access to Parent Howdy during NSC or after.
Trust me, voice of experience! I have both a college aged boy & girl. It isn’t always easy, especially when they drop the ball or screw up, but that’s the best way for them to learn. Support them, of course, but it’s much better to set them up for success vs failure.
YOU CAN DO IT!
I love @52AG82. We are CC kindred spirits. But I’m going to give a somewhat different perspective on parenting during this process and what I’ve seen from my kids plus students I advise.
High school students, in general, have not had the work load/schedule they will have in college. They won’t have the teacher or parental support to get things done on time and prioritize. There are very few reminders in college. I do believe we need to set our students up for success and not throw them in and watch them struggle. Give them the tools. Advise them on how to work through the syllabus for each class and log everything onto their calendar. Due dates can be sneaky. Yes… remind them they Will need to check email no less than twice a day. They must keep up with this. Instill this in them. Please! It is okay to parent how you parent. My son was pledge class President for his fraternity. He was swamped and struggled. He came to me a lot that semester. He asked for help on reminding him on things. I didn’t mind nor did It made him less of a student. He saw he needed help and asked for it. Smart! FYI, got a 4.0 that semester (fraternities stress the need for good grades).
Point being. You don’t need to cut the cord. Start to shave it down by teaching them what needs to be done. In no time they will not ask for advice and just give you their final grades vs telling you every quiz grade lol. Omg that got old.
Raise them up, nudge them out, watch them soar.
Much love peeps.
@misterhemmings Congrats! So good to hear a happy ending! Just wondering, how long did it take from Application Complete in Review to Acceptance at TAMUG?
This
Kindred spirits, for sure!
Lol. I like the shave it down analogy. I’m confident my girl will be able to manage her Howdy account all on her own once this semester is done. She’s been handling community college since 15, managing two email accounts, Canvass, her HS interface, registration, approaching profs on her own during office hours, all great skills that will hopefully serve her well at TAMU. I just want her to be able to enjoy the next several weeks of being a kid and being with friends as much as she can. She doesn’t have the time or desire to read through all the social media post like I do. And thanks to you and so many others, we’ve gained a ton of knowledge which has helped tremendously on this journey.
My kiddo got his 7 tabs this morning for Galveston. He applied for Marine Biology and will stay in Galveston for a year and then change of major. He couldn’t believe the quick turn around. He literally applied on 3/29, his app was complete and in review Tuesday 4/5 (showing incomplete up till then), then 7 tabs this morning. Oh the relief and excitement!
Only about 3 weeks. And, not only that but I got emails from Advisors in the Oceans and One Health Department explaining how he can ‘Change Major’ next year if he wants to CS (although they said they’d love him to stay at TAMUG! And emails from Admissions about missing documents. ) Stellar communication from Galveston all around. I hope he likes his tour next week!
Sorry I got busy yesterday so I didn’t log in but here you go! I made a playlist on YouTube on some tutorials for Howdy that I found useful
Click on the playlist button on the top right of the video to access the full playlist since CC automatically makes it into a video format and takes away the link, hope that helps and lmk if you need anything else!
I disagree with most saying he won’t find housing in the Spring in CS. My daughter is an on campus freshman now and there was plentiful housing in the Spring - several rooms on her floor alone. All those kiddos that aren’t successful and bail out at semester leave openings for the transfers. Why do y’all think they can offer those guaranteed pathways? They know they will have attrition - even in the Spring.
Agree on Spring. But note that Fall is always full because transfer and FTFT (first time full time) students mostly come in the Fall semester.
The vacancy in Spring likely due to the consistent 14-16% drop out rate of FTFT students. 11-13% transfer to other instituttions with 2% not reachable. The figure translates to 1100-1400 students.
TAMU admits more transfer than drop out, admitting 6000 (3000 enrolled). From the GDR you can see (e.g. Engineering) freshmen class total always smallest, with sophomore total higher, then junior and senior total highest.
@Tori_Hollas housing contract is for a full year, so even a student moves off campus, drops out or other, they’re still paying for that room. I don’t know if ResLife ‘double dips’ and re-rents a room, when it’s already been paid for.
You can buy yourself out of contract. I think you pay 50% remaining.
100% they double dip. Or partial dip as Christie mentioned since you can buy out your remaining contract. Some are “let out” of their contract for “health” issues as well. Anyhow, there is on campus housing available in the Spring - that’s all I’m saying.
First time poster but a daily reader for months and months. My son got PSA on Black Friday of Spring Break. Very heartbreaking. I’ve been following @misterhemmings very closely bc very similar stats. We toured A&M Corpus Christi but he says it’s either Blinn or another school he’s been accepted into. We applied to Galveston and are waiting for acceptance (hopefully). @ChristiR93 is it probable to transfer major to CStat after fall semester? We have housing options for Galveston fall and CStat spring so that is not an issue. Does A&M College Station give preference to major changes from Galveston over transfers from Blinn? Thanks for everyone’s help and advice. This has been brutal. Older son got in under academic admit into Mays in September of ‘18 for fall 2019. The good ol’ days.
