Hi, I recently got accepted into the Texas Academy of Math and Science (TAMS). I’ve heard that it’s a good idea to prepare for your first year at TAMS by taking courses in the summer and reviewing the curriculum for the more challenging classes such as Chemistry and Calculus. I want to do research this summer but feel like my time will be better spent studying/reviewing for the classes I will be taking in the first and second semester next year. I really want to do original research over the summer but another part of me wants to prepare for the academic rigor and try to prepare myself so it will be easier to get a 4.0 during the first and second semesters. Does any current or previous TAMSter have any suggestions as to how I should spend my summer in regards to studying vs applying for some sort of research by reaching out to other professors? Also, do you think it’s possible to maintain a 4.0 at TAMS if I do research, participate in clubs there, and choose to do research over this summer instead of prepping for TAMS?
