Texas Colleges for A/B Students

I am researching Texas colleges for my school for students that are bright but may not be auto admit candidates. Any suggestions?

The top schools would be UT and A&M. The next tier would be UTD, Tech and UofH. Third tier would UNT, Texas State and UTSA. This is just a list for the public schools in Texas.

There really aren’t “tiers” of colleges in Texas, unless the tier in question is being measured by acceptance rate, or endowment size, or something like that. Acceptability and prestige are in the eye of the beholder, and varies wildly. From a practical standpoint there are a LOT of excellent college options in Texas. Without knowing what it is that your students are interested in studying, what they can afford, where they are in terms of academics, what size college they’re looking for, public or private, and what other interests they have/want to pursue, providing you a list of great schools is relatively useless.

A and A/B, students, even A/B/C students have a LOT of potentially viable options in Texas. If you can provide some more specific criteria that would indicate academic, financial, and social fit, I’m certain you’ll get the tailored recommendations that you’re looking for!

Baylor, Austin College, Sam Houston

Here is most recognised list but as you never know, cast a bigger net.

Look at Trinity, Southwestern, and Austin College. For a more A than B student, try UT Austin Plan II, the liberal arts honor college. I’ve heard of kids getting in there that didn’t get auto admit for UT,

Oh, how could I forget St. Ed’s in Austin?!

The University of Arkansas is a nice option.

For the “A/B” students who don’t want a cutthroat competitive school in Texas, there are great options. There’s Texas Tech and University of Houston. Texas Tech offers a more traditional college atmosphere, and U of H is more of a city school. There’s also Texas State and UTSA. Texas State is the more traditional college, while UTSA is the city school.
