Texas vs Alabama Predictions

LonghornLife good points above but please stop questioning my fan-hood, I should have re-worded my sentence about my prediction. I will always support my team by hoping they will win and cheering for them. But, I think Bama will win in this game. Texas obviously has a chance but I think Alabama is the better football team. Yes Colt McCoy is a good leader I’m not debating that, I’m just debating that Alabama has just as good leaders. I’d consider McCoy one of the best Longhorn leaders, but so is Shipley and I’d still put VY over them. The reason why I listed those great pro athletes was to show that being a great leader isn’t based on number of championships or wins. And I agree that if McCoy wins he should be known as one of the best leaders ever, but up to this point he isn’t in that category just yet.

If you’re wondering why I think Alabama has been the better football team, well, you’re third to the bottom paragraph explains why Bama is the better team. Without Ingram Alabama can win, without McCoy Texas can’t win. I’m kinda getting tired of trying to prove my points, so I’m not going to because it’s kinda useless talking about it since everything will be proven on the field  I like talking about college football but debating over the internet about subjective things isn’t doing anything. I can’t wait for the game!

So if Colt gets hurt and cannot play in the bowl game, you would agree that you’re not a true fan? :)

Regarding leadership, just remember one name, Vince Young. That guy, had the “oomph” factor. He gave that offense the “gangsta” attitude(along with a few others). This is something we’re lacking of. No offense to Colt, but VY is the kind of player I want with the ball in his hands when the game is on the line because he gives you that surge of confidence in your heart that he’s gonna lead us to victory. Heck, Pete Carroll said it best after the MNC game that he had never coached against a QB with such strong leadership like Vince Young. Like I said, I love Colt and wish him the all the best in the pros and I’m very fortunate to have watched him play in burnt orange and get 45 wins, but he just doesn’t have that “oomph.” Our offense in 2005>>>>>>2009. Defense, a little bit the other way around.

One reason our Longhorns haven’t looked impressively as they should be starts with the O-Line. They are playing way too soft and not giving Colt much time and confidence to throw. Additionally, this has led to a lack of development in the running game. It’s tough for me to watch Hall, Ulatoski, Tanner, etc. get pushed back like 5 yards either when we pass or run. I blame this solely on McWhorter(OL coach). He’s the one who recruits these guys and they look like a bunch of choir boys. We need more guys that have the “bring it on” attitude of Kasey Studdard from the 2005 Championship team. He was a freaking beast and was the heart and soul of that offensive line.

Another offensive struggle of ours is the lack of a TE. This is another reason to our lack of running game for blocking and it also hurts to not have a solid TE because it could’ve stretched the field more giving the secondary opponents headaches. Just remember as well, we’re playing without Brandon Collins. He was supposed to be our other go to guy next to Shipley. That and our offensive play calling.

As far as Bama goes, just remember, they looked great against Florida in the SEC game because the Gators were hurting on D. They didn’t have Carlos Dunlap, who could’ve made a major impact on the Tide’s blocking schemes. Furthermore, Brandon Spikes was hurting physically for most of that game. And he’s the leader of that Florida D.

That said however, I really don’t see Texas coming out victorious. Of course, I hope I’m wrong when it’s all said and done. The thing is, it doesn’t take a defensive genius to game plan against Texas’ offense. Greg Davis plays too conservative and predictable. I have a feeling Bama is just gonna play a 3-man rush(which is what they usually do), keep 5 men underneath to take away Colt’s short passing game, and play 2-3 man deep to take away the big play. This is what OU and NU did and one reason Suh ended up winning almost every award. The reason the Sooners/Huskers didn’t come out on top against us is because offensively, they had a lot of woes. OU missing Bradford, inexperienced OL, and not enough receivers to stretch field. NU just didn’t have a decent passing game. Alabama is gonna be a different story. Because they have a talented OL to block for Ingram and McElroy isn’t all that bad. He’s no Colt, but I believe he’s a better QB than the one NU had. Not to mention, he does have a solid WR in Julio Jones who is gonna be a big test for our secondary. Of course, our secondary has been playing lights out all season, but I’d like to see how they play against a WR like Julio.

As I said earlier, I’m hoping we come out on top and that it’s an exciting, close game. The only way I see us winning is if our offensive line brings their “A” game and a “touch my QB and I will wipe my ass with your soul” approach. Also, most importantly, our special teams cannot give them any big plays. Our ST has been a key flaw for UT. I’d say, kick the ball away from Javier Arenas as much as possible. That boy is a baller. And last but not least, defense plays like they always have been, lights out. We should be alright if all that happens.

Score prediction: Bama 24 UT 13

The secondary is suspect. see: baylor, tech, a&m, ou. Earl is the only one worth mention b/c he is darn good. Gideon still is awful.

Don’t forget about Aaron Williams now too. For a DB, I’m impressed with his tackling abilities.

I agree with JHB619 99.9%. The keys for Texas: The O-line has to play well and give Colt time to throw; the other receivers need to step it up because Shipley will be doubled and jammed at the line every play.

The only thing I really disagree with is:
“Our offense in 2005>>>>>>2009. Defense, a little bit the other way around”
I think our 2005 defense was the best in recent Texas history & maybe the best UT defense ever. That team had stars like Brian Orakpo, Cedric Griffin, Aaron Ross, Michael Huff, & Michael Griffin (these are some of the best defenders in the NFL). The 2009 team has some very good defenders but really only one star in Earl Thomas.

Yea, 2005 def. had some stars no doubt and it was still pretty darn good. But what I like about this 2009 defense is the front 7. They scare QBs off and get 'em running for their life. Heck, one of Big 12 player was saying Texas D has definitely changed especially in attitude. Something they hadn’t seen before with Texas. Let’s not forget now, the D Line was supposed to be a weakness from the beginning. But the way they get penetration in for the LBs is amazing. Thank God for Muschamp.

As for ET, the kid is def. a baller. He’ll be great in the pros. Don’t forget about Kindle, however. Just remember, OL’s are doubling him. He’s that good.

Irrelevant. Colt McCoy cannot get hurt. The A&M game his freshman year was a decoy to make other teams think he was mortal.

Even though I go to UT and am a hardcore Longhorn fan (watched all the games this season), I got to say 'Bama is going to win mostly unless the Longhorns are training and practicing hardcore this winter break. After watching each game, I keep seeing the teams offense, as a whole, diminish in quality and production of plays. Consistency is the key and something the Longhorns are lacking . After the Nebraska game and Colt’s failure to know the clock rule, It kind of dampened my spirits :(.

Looking back at this, don’t think it was all that bad against Baylor. If you were looking at this based off the entire game, I might want to remind you that we started putting in our 2nd stringers in the 2nd half. Tech is a passing team and Leach is a genius as an OC. They were gonna get their numbers. As for a&m, that wasn’t just the secondary, that was also the front 7. To not see them get any pressure on Jerrod Johnson and watching him pass/run all over them was simply dreadful. It’s hard to play against scramblers like JJ because they keep a defense honest. Additionally, it’s a rivalry game and A&M was gonna play their best to ruin the Longhorn’s hopes for a MNC.

I might want to add, another way Texas could have a better chance is if the defense forces some turnovers like they have been and getting it into great field position. I believe Texas leads the nation in non-offensive TDs.

^ Yeah that’d be great but McElroy and Ingram don’t turn the ball over much (McElory’s only thrown 5 picks in his career, Ingram’s never fumbled). I can picture Texas getting a pick though.

Ingram fumbled late in Alabama territory against Tennessee (as they were trying to run out the clock), which led to a Tennessee touchdown, then the on-side kick recovery and blocked field goal. Besides that, he’s reliable.

But based on that instance, when Ingram fumbles catastrophic things happen. Gameplan: cause him to fumble.

Oh, I don’t remember that.
