Textbooks in Bing

My D received a list of books to buy. Binghamton bookstore doesn't give enough info about book names, authors, publishers. I managed to find a single book out 5 or 6 that she needs on Amazon. Majority of her books I can't even figure out the names. Can anybody suggest a place to look for books except for a Bing bookstore?

All book information should be able to be found here (as I do not know where she got the list from): [Your Customized Textbook List - Binghamton University Bookstore](<a href=“Find Course Materials | University Bookstore”>Find Course Materials | University Bookstore)

What classes is she registered for?

Generally you do not need to buy your text books for the first day. You can go off campus to Mando books when she is dropped off and they sell used books for good prices. However, they are not guaranteed to have everything in stock.

Just a random comment - Shouldn’t daughter look into buying her own books? Suggest that she email the professors if the textbook’s information isn’t clear on the Bing. website. This way it’ll possibly help build a connection with this professor (if it’s a smaller class) AND help her get used to the college idea that your parents won’t be holding your hands anymore.

I’ve found that ebay, or amazon, have been really great with finding textbooks, depending on the courses of course.

she can call the bookstore and they will give her the ISBN number

My daughter will be buying her own books with my credit card. That’s where my interest arose. Thanks for all comment. Where is Mando books in proximity to a college. We’re a little familiar with an area after orientation and she won’t have a car.

It’s not very far from the University at all. If she can’t get there on foot I imagine she can do so easily by cab, and maybe by bus depending on whether one runs between the two places. Here are the mapquest directions. It’s less than a mile away.

1: Start out going EAST on VESTAL PKWY E/ NY-434 E toward MURRAY HILL RD. - 0.2 mi 2: Make a U-TURN at MURRAY HILL RD onto VESTAL PKWY E/ NY-434 W. - 0.7 mi
3: Turn LEFT onto CR-53/ BUNN HILL RD. - 0.1 mi
4: 1101 BUNN HILL RD is on the RIGHT.

You can get there by foot and it really doesn’t take too long. It is right off campus on the side of where Hinman is located. My friends used to walk there all the time. Definitely no need to take a cab…

fyi hyperJulie – those directions basically have you going out one side of campus to take vestal parkway across to the other side of campus, where there is in fact another entrance/exit to campus that you could have gone out in the first place. :)

if you recall where the denny’s right near campus is, mando’s is along that street (bunn hill road, which hits vestal parkway right where denny’s is), closer to the campus exit.

the distance is definitely walkable – the only issue is how many books you’ll be weighed down with.

It’s located right at a side entrance to the university. I believe they also provide free limo rides to and from campus unless that’s only at the end of semesters?

Ha, I just knew it was close.

Actually, I think you’re right about the limo rides. It says on the flier I got at orientation that there will be free limo rides the first few days of classes, though it’s not terribly specific. Sounds fun though. I might just buy my books whenever is convenient and take the limo for funsies. :)

since we’re on this subject, how important is it to have your textbooks during the first week of class?
I need to change up my classes and depending on time conflicts and the number of seats avalible, I dont know exactly what courses I will be taking until Aug 28th so I can’t order books now. I doubt I’ll be buying books from the bookstore since they cost on average $30 more than what you pay on amazon or half.com. But that takes at least a week of shipping.

Do alot of students order books during the summer? what do students normally do? Is there a site where students sell their used books to freshmen?

thanks,
mangoo

mangoo - Some people like to buy them ahead of time (myself included) but realistically speaking, SO many people change their schedule that sometimes it’s not worth it. So it’s not a huge deal not to have them, just as soon as you can get them, do.

Also, mandos (on campus) has pretty good deals I’ve heard, otherwise you could check amazon or ebay, and pay more for earlier shipping. And depending on the courses we’re talking about, there may be some cc’ers that could help you out.

W were @ Mando yesterday. It’s totally around the corner from college on the same parkin lot with Denny’s. One word of prices there were not any better than in regular BU Bookstore which we couldn’t find with all tha chaos of a Freshman Moving Day. Mando looks like you travel in time 40 years back into 60’s.
