What is the best way to save money on textbooks? Any specific websites?

The best way to save on textbooks is to buy it from a fellow student if the professor doesn’t stress on buying the new edition or if there simply isn’t a new edition. Students are usually trying to sell their books on Facebook pages. If you cannot find the book you need from another student, buy it used from the bookstore. If they don’t sell the used version of your textbook, the bookstore will either try to sell it to you new or rent it to you. Renting is slightly cheaper than purchasing the book. If the book you’re buying is for a highly “popular” class, such as Math, I recommend you buy it new and sell it to another student later on. Doing so, you will actually profit from this. However, if you rent the book, you will end up returning the book to the bookstore and you will receive nothing in return. Only rent books that aren’t high in demand, such as a book for a foreign language that isn’t taken by many students.

also check amazon.com, half.com, chegg.com, and other bookseller sites. Always go by the isbn number of your book because titles and covers can be similar.

You can get a list of your books and #s by going to the Rutgers Bookstore website and submitting your course info. When you get the list of books needed, print it out so you have it handy. Some books are required and some are ‘suggested’, but my son has never purchased the suggested books.

You may want to wait until the first day of classes before purchasing as some teachers will let you buy older editions.

Also, if it says ‘package’ or ‘online access’ it is sometimes not worth it to buy a used textbook as you still need other components. You should be able to purchase the online access (typically used for homework assignments) separately through the company, such as Pearson, so you can compare the costs of the new package vs purchasing separately.
