Textbooks?

Hi everyone!
This might be a little too early, but does anyone know how buying textbooks at Hopkins works? When to buy it, and is there a list of the books..?

please respond. thanks a lot~

Go to the Hopkins bookstore online and there should be a "Textbook" link. You then enter your classes and it will generate a list. Not all classes are up yet. Before you buy anything, you might want to check with the professor to make sure that is what you will need.

ooh thanks!
is it advisable to buy it so early? the reason i want to purchase it early is that i can buy used books at a cheaper price..

when school starts, do they allow you sufficient time to order textbooks? it takes a while for the books to be shipped
please reply
thanks:]

You can pick them up at the store and ya, you will have plenty of time. I've always found the system to work well, so I wouldn't worry about this

You can also try amazon. They might advertise cheaper books sold by individuals rather than amazon. For example, a textbook that amazon sold for $120 I got new for $67.

i agree. generally for the more common classes, if you just go to the book store you can find used ones. otherwise you can find them online or w/e. ive had some problems with getting online ones... being the versions mismatched with my prof's.

Someone in the Parents Forum mentioned http://www.cheapesttextbooks.com if you're not buying from the bookstore. It compares prices from Amazon, Half, etc.

so would the professors expect us to have our books the first day? or would they give us atleast one day to go the campus store to buy the textbooks?
-tys =D
edit: andrew, if the textbook runs out in the store...like would the professors understand that we need a couple of extra days to get them or would he still expect us to have it on time?

yeah most of the time youll have some time before you need the books. more common classes like calc and physics would require you having your books earlier but the bookstore is prepared for those. i just would try to get them asap.
