Has anyone gotten their decisions letters from Thacher? Mine just came in the mail! I live on the east coast, so I'm guessing those of you on the west coast are hearing right now too.

Congrats on your acceptance :P

Florence - very well done. Congratulations! Extremely hard to be admitted this year! What state do you hail from?

@ThacherParent
Thank you so much! I’m very excited! I live in New York.

We live in CA and received an acceptance letter from Thacher on Thursday. We are so relieved and happy for our son. Congratulations to you!

Congrats to florencez734 and patronyork! We (current Thacher family) received a letter from Head of School Michael Mulligan yesterday, saying this was the toughest admission cycle yet, with only a 13% admit rate. Many, many qualified applicants were not admitted because there just wasn’t room for everyone that would be a great Thacher student.

WELCOME to the Thacher family!

Florenz and Patron – congrats on your acceptances to Thacher! We still have not received our decision. Did yours come USPS priority mail or another method? Still keeping fingers crossed…

@SCRMOM

Our Thatcher notice came in a hard mail on Thursday afternoon. We were surprised it came in much earlier than expected. I live in Calif. and so the delivery may have taken less time. I hope you will hear good news.

Thanks Patron. When will the Thacher revisit day be? Trying to schedule a couple of other revisits and hoping there would be no conflicts should we get a good news letter tomorrow…

@SCRMOM

Thacher revisit days are
March 28-29 or April 7-8

You can choose one that is more convenient for you. Theirs is unique in that students spend one night in the dorm with host students assigned and get to feel the experience similar to the students’ actual day cycle.

Thanks Patron. Hope you enjoy your revisit days. Thacher is such a special school; while my daughter was pleased with a few NE acceptances, her heart really wants Thacher to come through. I hope it is to be, we shall see.

It sounds from this thread like Thacher acceptance letters arrived a few days before the deadline last year. Was it just the acceptance letters that came early or did the WL and rejection letters also come early? Crossing our fingers here! Thank you!

bumping this back up for Calboys. Do any of the Thacher parents happen to know this one?

@Calboys

Last year, we received an envelop from Thacher on March 7 Thursday, in the afternoon. I remember this because we had thought that the mail might come in on friday March 8, because M10 last year was Sunday. But in fact the mail came in even a day earlier and we were surprised.

Looking back, I think maybe we received it on M7 just because we live in CA. So parents in the East may have received it on M8 or M9. This year, M10 is Monday and I have no idea if the mail comes in earlier. I don’t think any other type of decision (WL/rejection) will come on a different date. Best of luck!

Thank you so much @patronyork! I appreciate it. We are also in California so perhaps we too will notified a day or two early. My son is absolutely in love with Thacher (as are we), so we are very anxiously awaiting the admissions decision. Thank you for your good wishes!

I am so nervous for the Thacher letter! I live in the South though, so it might be later.

And we are East Coast, so I’m worried that it will be later for us as well! Last year when we went through this process from overseas, it was nice to get all notifications online. No stressing about the mail service!

Also, it looks like last year’s revisit days for Thacher were not over the weekend - is that correct @patronyork?

@GMC2918

Last year’s revisit days (Thacher calls it a second-visit day) were March 28-29 (Thu-Fri) and April 7-8 (Sun-Mon).
Accepted families can choose any of the two. I don’t know when they will be this year.

I don’t know if many schools do it like Thacher but it has two-day revisit session.
The schedule was as follows: (I guess it will be similar this year. too)

First day

6:00 PM: Family & Student check-in
6:15 PM: Parents gathering at the Head’s resident (cocktails, snack, etc), Kids to be paired up with host student

Thacher has a unique way of getting kids better familiarized by pairing them up with current freshman students. Once they meet, they will be gone for the night! They will sleep over at the host student’s dorm room. They will spend a night getting introduced informally to existing students, etc. Parents should reserve a room at hotels nearby.

Second Day

9AM - 3:15PM

Parents will meet several directors, have lunch at school, attend a class or two, attend a student assembly, etc.
Kids will wake up early and go to the barn, see existing freshman host take care of his/her horse, eat breakfast together, attend the classes with the host student. Kids will basically follow the host student’s schedule for an entire day thereby getting the better feel and taste of a daily life.

After the whole schedule is over, you can also stay longer if you want to watch the sports games if any.

It also means that you can visit Cate before you come to Thacher on the first day as you will have a whole day until 6PM.

@Calboys

I wrote some info on the revisit day as a reply to GMC above. If you have any question, please PM me anytime.

@usernamess

I am not sure if the people in the South will get the letter later. There is a chance. Anyway, I wish you all the best! PM me if any qeustions.
