Thank you notes to interviewers - how to address?

I am writing a short thank you to my interviewer (to his email address) following our interview, however I was wondering how to address the letter?

That is, by his first name such as "Dear Fred" (for example), or formally by his last name, ie. "Dear Mr Smith". Or perhaps "To ____" ?

My interviewer is a fairly young (mid twenties) recent graduate, if that provides any context.

Many thanks in advance for the advice!

I would address him by his last name in the form: “Dear Mr. ________”

My interviewers usually give their first names, but I always call them by their last. You can never be too formal. Well, I mean, if you come to your interview in traditional white tie and speak in the acrolect, maybe then, but generally, I think it’s a safer way to go than than being casual.

^Yes, I agree. Many interviewers choose to simply call themselves “Joe” despite their impressive, highly-educated backgrounds but a formal address is usually the most socially acceptable.
