Just a suggestion on hotel rooms for football weekends – always call the hotels to check on availability. Don’t rely on the online booking info, because it is not always accurate. Especially if you are looking for more than just Friday and Saturday nights, you will be very desirable to the hotels.

On busy weekends, I often stay in Waynesboro, which is about 20 minutes to the west on I64. Not only do you get much more for your money, but it is much easier (and sometimes quicker) to come into Cville from I64 than on Rt. 29 North. It works for me because I drive into Cville via I81 and I64 to avoid the Beltway and the I95 tolls.

Tickets to the VT game are selling on stubhub for ~$200 ea. I plan to wait for single ticket sales to open through UVA directly. Will I have to buy one for my first year son, or will he be able to get a student ticket for less/free?

There are fees built into the tuition bill that cover tickets to games for students.

Here’s more info:

If you want to sit together, you might want to buy an inexpensive ticket and then hang out together on the hill. The hill (under the scoreboard) is open. The draw back is that there are no seats and it becomes a bit muddy if it rains.

There are “student guest” tickets, but I’m not really familiar with how that works for the Virginia Tech game.

Very helpful, Dean J. Thank you.

Well, got our tickets @ 9:01am this morning for the VT game, so we’re all set to visit for Thanksgiving. During orientation we found that student guest tickets were going for $55 on the hill so we passed on that since the “seated” single game tickets were $65. Not knowing what the weather will be like, the extra $10 may be well worth it. Section 506, by the student section, so we expect lots of UVA company around us :)
