That Odd Sense of Content...

Hey y'all, so I've commented a bit so you may or may not know me. I'm bored in class and suffering from epic mounds of transfer-itis.

I've worked my tail off for the last year to earn a 4.0 while running the 2 non-profit organizations I founded in 2005 and cultivated since senior year of high school until now. I'm 22 and took 4 years off high school because I found my calling in helping the underprivileged despite a hefty high school resume (which was a result of pressure more so than desire, as I fear it is with most high school automatons these days).

In any case, I applied to NYU, Northwestern, Berkeley, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UCI and Stanford for transfer.

So far I've received acceptances to UCSD, UCSB and NYU. And while I aimed high and had hopes set on schools like Berkeley and Stanford, I'm not even that nervous about those letters because I've got this odd feeling of content. Could I have gotten a 3.3 and still gotten into these schools? Probably. But I didn't, and while I'm excited at what letters may still come, I am perfectly content with a world class education at one of the schools I did get into and just want to realize becoming a civil rights attorney, by whatever means.

From reading how pensive and nervous people are on this forum (myself not excluded) I think a lot of us can share this feeling of content based on acceptances from our 3rd or below choice of schools because it means we're going somewhere, we're on our way in some form or another.

So congrats everyone and good luck :)

Nice positive message! I’ve been accepted to my 3rd choice (UCSD) and I’m happy =]

i totally agree with you OP. i think if you worked hard and have the results to support it, you will get accepted to a respectable school. and although i understand that intense desire to attend your dream school, i have enough experience to know that life is ultimately what you make of it. your potential for success and wonderful experiences certainly do not vanish with a rejection from your dream school.

with that said, i do hope all of you get into the school of your choice =)

great post thelongshot,

i feel at ease too. like yeah!!! im going to the University, i am finally transitioning.

group hug

the word you’re looking for is contentment . . . content is the adjective.
sorry, cc brings out my grammar nazi side
good luck! let us know about stanford.

yesterday was my first notification from the campuses i applied to, and i was not admitted to ucsb. I guess being that i have a mixed transcript (oos and ccc) one of my IGTSE courses got lost in translation because they wrote me a personal note saying that is was due to the incompletion of one tranfer course.

i may have to do this all again for another year just because of burocracy. i have a 3.9, speak three languages and worked in hollywood, took my biggest chance on coming here to finish school (left my awesome job in morocco) and now i have a feeling that i will just be rejected from every campus.

just needed to get that out.

Sarah1984, I’m really sorry to hear that. If you think that UCSB made a mistake, you should definitely contact them and ask them about it. There were a bunch of mistakes made in last year’s UCSD transfer admissions and the admissions office was able to fix them once they were pointed out.

Appeal, Sarah1984

you should def appeal sarah. that is a worth while appeal because they obviously didnt know what they were talking about. explain it and hope for the best!

i have transfer-itis now too. i am going to explode!

I’m glad a lot of you feel the same way, good luck to everyone.

And thank you so much, I will let you know about Stanford, even though I would say that the tentative answer is a rejection. Transfer to Stanford (at a whopping 2.4%) is one instance in life where you can expect failure until success and not the other way around lol

Sarah, definitely appeal, unless your one course was a basic IGETC Math or English course. If you did not take it then I apologize for the bureaucracy that is the UC-CC alliance transfer system but you can take solace in knowing you will get in next year with the correct course work. But if you did take the class and it was somehow lost in the process then acquire the proof and appeal and you will be a shoe in. Best of luck to you.

yeah, you should appeal sarah, 3.9GPA is DEFINITELY UCSB quality, heck I got in with lieka 3.5

Longshot I thought the deadline for NYU’s application hasn’t even passed yet how were you accepted?

So some people already got rejections? First I’ve heard of

wait, we can still apply to nyu?

As far as NYU, you get your decision approximately 2 months after you apply and I turned in my application mid-January.

You can still apply, the deadline is April first but you won’t hear until about mid-July.

ohh that sux… do you have like the website with all their required pre-req’s?

Sarah, I’m sorry to hear about that, I also have an OOS transcript under my record and I’m feeling terribly antsy. But I have a question, don’t they usually release rejections on the last day? :/

don’t know about that. when i logged in it said “not admitted” and then said that i was missing a required UC transfer course. The problem is that i sent out my evals (because i did the course at my oos) only to cal. i know that not all the campus’ feel the same because i got an email from ucd asking me about a specific course i am taking right now at laney so they must not have been too concerned about my oos transcript issues. all i know is that when i called ucb she said that with a mixed transcript it is very subjective. one campus might see it as a disadvantage and not accept your courses even with a formal evaluation, and another might accept you without an evaluation. bah. i just feel that if UCSB didn’t like my app, who will? the only thing keeping me hopefull is that the admissions advisor at cal said that cal loves “wild cards” with interesting backgrounds. beh

@long are we the only two stanford applicants who frequent the uc transfer forum? ahaha

Sarah, it might have been because of the specific college you applied to. There are a few (out of six) colleges that require heavy requisites, and a few that require not close to as many. It could have simply been the college you applied to. You probably should have applied to a different college like Sixth, or Muir. Don’t think for a second that when you put what your top choice school is, it won’t matter. Because it WILL matter.
