So, who are those admitted into schools in the 25th percentile SAT and below? Should one compare scores to schools using the 25th percentile or the average? The average is much higher, so I tend to comfort myself by looking at the 25th percentile.. For example, who's accepted into Princeton with a 1370???<which is their 25th percentile (1370-1590) Are these percentiles only misleading? Do they provide FALSE hope? Any insight???

Usually minorities, recruits, developmental cases, disadvantaged students, etc?

These applicants fill up somewhere between 25% to 50% of a school's total admits, that's my guess.

wow, that's a pretty large chunk

wow 25-50 percent ! i thought it was more around 25 % and a little less, you have to keep in mind that there are a lot of legacies and minorities that have sat scores in the upper echelon of all acceptees.

I believe the range you posted (1370-1590) is incorrect...

I'm not sure exactly what it is but they list these on their site...math middle 50% 700-790 and CR middle 50% 690-790

I believe these stats suggest that a 1590 would be above the 75th percentile becuase if a student scored in the 75th percentile in each section then their combined would be higher than just hte 75th and also I would find it hard to believe that people having a 1370 would be the 25th percentile because if you only had the 25th percentile in each secton your score would be in a much lower percentile combined...

not sure if that all makes sense the way I put but I think its right..

If schools mid range act score was a 26-30, and lets say you have a 25. You would still have a decent chance of being admitted.

^ Depends on the school. Unless you have a hook or something going your way, scoring under the 25th percentile will make it very unlikely that you will be admitted to Princeton.

according to US News 2007 that's the percentile, unless I typed it in wrong, or unless US News is just plain wrong...

is urm that big thing??

A lot depends on the context. At a small LAC, the bottom 25% is probably largely peopled with hooked students, but at a large public, that bottom 25% may be more representative of the student body. Even more important, a school that admits 20% of students is rejecting many students at or above the average score, but at a school with a 70% admit rate, you're probably a near lock if you're just at the median.

I think most of the abysmal students are aristocrats who pay in millions
