The Academic Ranking of World Universities places UF: 51st world-wide, and 38th in US

SSobick, the 11.54% number you cited is the percentage of entering freshman business students who are from a country outside the U.S.

International students for all majors at UM for the 2006-2007 class:
New freshman: 104 (5.1% of freshman class)
Undergraduate: 672 (6.4% of undergraduate students)
Graduate: 649 (12.6% of graduate students)

The total number of international students (undergrad+grad) at Miami is 672+649=1321 out of 15,670 students, which is 8.4% of the entire student population (all majors).

Unless I’ve miscalculated, UF appears to have more international students in terms of both number of students and percentage of students.

MovieBuff is a huge UMiami supporter, I try to ignore him.

The ranking is a bit dubious though.

UF receives record $583 million in research funding! Where is UM???

Well, this is very interesting. It is funny how around the same time the UFlorida releases the above information, the Miami Herald publishes an article about what's really going on with public universities in Florida.

I guess we can call that "damage control" from UF's part..and some major spinning of the reality...

In my opinion, people pay way to much attention to these rankings. Education is ultimately what YOU make of it. You can go to Harvard and sit in your dorm room and play Halo for 4 years, or you can go to a no-name liberal arts school in the Midwest, excel academically, volunteer in the community, meet interesting people, study abroad, do research, ect . . .

My father, who is a physician, says that he pays no attention to schools when he hires residents. He said his best resident he has ever taught went to medical school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Where is that school on the rankings?

I personally got a fantastic education at an urban liberal arts school in St. Paul, MN. I've also taken classes at Minneapolis Community College and had great experiences at both institutions. I had some really inspiring and engaging professors. There were more than enough opportunities for me to excel.

That's not that much. U Washington got over $1Billion last year.

It might not be as much as WashU, but it's still a Top-10 public in terms of Research, and Top-15 Overall.

With all the biomedical infastructure that the state of Florida has invested in, watch that ranking become a Top-10 Overall within the next 5 years.

Oh my bad I guess you mean University of Washington. But this institution is one of the top Public & Private (5th overall). I believe UF is the 9th best overall public. --This is according to the "Centers Rankings" done by ASU.
