The colleges ask you to say yourself how much you can provide for the kid per year. If the number is too low, is it going to affect the admission? Even though people say no, but I don't believe what colleges say anymore. Anyone has an answer to this?

I have no idea what that question is there for. What I did was low-ball my EFC, e.g. if my EFC was 25K I said I can contribute 23K. It did not seem to affect my DS admissions when I did so.

who knows, but if you put 5K and they see your EFC is 30K... it may not affect your admissions decision, but it may affect your FA offer. Alot of people will post after they get stuff later in the spring that schools didn't offer them enough money to attend.

I don't know what this question is about either, the numbers are going to be way off (as in, very low) if it's the first time a parent is sending a kid to school. Possibly even if it isn't. They have all the numbers to figure out what THEY think you can pay, so what does this accomplish?
