The AP US History Study Thread

oh yeah ..question... what did Gibbons vs. Ogden decide

Gibbons v. Ogden decided Congress has power over interstate commerce?

If im right, What did the Deists in the late 18th century believe?

I typed this to help get a perspective on what happened when and what led to what else. A problem that I've had on essays is that I mix up periods of history. Thought it might help. Feel free to add/change anything.

Colonial -> Dissent/Tension -> Revolution -> Creating Gov't -> Political Divisions -> territorial expansion -> War w/ Britian -> Era of Good Feelings -> Improvements in Industry -> Reform -> Sectionalism -> Civil War -> Reconstruction -> Industrialization -> The Gilded Age -> Progressivism -> Imperialism -> WWI -> Red Scare -> The Roaring 20s -> Depression -> WWII -> McCarthysim -> Consumerism/Conformity -> Cold War -> Anti-Communism -> Division in Society and Culture -> Conservative resurgence -> Modern day

federal jurisdiction over interstate commerce

what overturned plessy v ferguson

War of 1812, Brit was in a war with France and they both wanted to trade with America or something. Jefferson had his embargo act that everyone hated...

Br kept harassing American ships so we declared war... American wasn't really well prepared. Uhmm Indians sided with the British...

Br and Fr stopped fighting eventually and the war in America died down as well. Forgot the treaty name.

^ Yeah I know, very vague stuff. Sorry, thats all I can pull out of my head. XD
If you really need info, I guess you can just pull it up on wiki.

pless v furg was overturned with brown v board of ed topeka, kansas

Brown v. BOE

Name the president associated with each:
New Freedom
Square Deal
Great Society
New Fronteir
Fair Deal

The deists believed in science over the bible, and rejected the Trinity and the idea of Original sin

Pick one of the forgettable presidents of the gilded age and state one "achievement" of their time and its significance.

I think it's fine, but I just wanna point out that history is A LOT more complicated and overlapping than that. You probably know already though. My teacher gave me a huge timeline (it's taller than me) and we wrote in eras (ex. progressivism, reform era).

Anyway, I think Deists were the ones who believed that God created
the universe and then left it to be governed by natural law.

Brown vs. Board of Education pwned Plessy v. Ferguson.

Ok. Now what event is the Second Great Awakening in response to?

brown vs. board

what did mcCulloch v. maryland decide

(i know, i'm on a court cases kick..sorry)

New Freedom- Wilson
Square Deal- TR
Great Society- LBJ
New Frontier- JFK
Fair Deal- Truman

brown vs board of ed overturned plessy v ferguson

deists believed, basically, in a creator (God), but not all of the other flowery religious stuff and based their beliefs on logic

who established (president) medicaid and medicare? define them.

New Freedom - FDR EDIT: WIlson
Square Deal - Teddy Roosevelt
Great Society - Lyndon Johnson
New Fronteir - Kennedy
Fair Deal - TR wannabe but not FDR, ? EDIT: truman

Treaty of Ghent ended war of 1812

mcculloch v MA is the bashing on the taxing of natl bank...
natl gov power > state power

.. or something of the other.

Fair Deal= Harry Truman, talking about labor unions, i think.
What was the Webster-Ashburton Treaty?

new freedom is wilson
new nationalism is tr

Lyndon Johnson was medicaid/care I assume?

One was direct aid and one was like insurance or something like that.

yeah johnson did medicare/medicaid under great society but i forget, one helps old people and one helps poor people

Webster-Ashburton Treaty: I want to say something releasing tensions between US and Britian but I think that is something else

yeah it is, it settled the maine/canada border and did stuff with slaves

W-A Treaty: defined boundaries between US and Great Britain.. Settled unfinished matters on Treaty of Ghent. Sec of State Dan. Webster (remember the debates he had with some-such about nullification in the senate?) argued it. specific: Maine canada border,
