I volunteer each week at a charity thrift store. I can just take my bags with me there. Problem is…I have to stop bringing things home!

You guys inspired me. The stack of books that were waiting to go somewhere went straight into the Friends of the Library drop box yesterday. Yay!

2 kids. Soccer, baseball/softball, basketball, golf, gymnastics. Cannot believe the trophies/medals/ribbons we have accumulated. Goskids kept maybe 2.
Neighbor is a principal. We re-purposed a bunch of the trophies for end of year teacher party last June.
“You really kicked it this year” got a soccer trophy. “You hit it out of the park this year” got a softball trophy. We had a lot of fun coming up with witty (or so we thought, after a glass of wine) awards for her staff. Lots of laughs…and rid my house of 27 trophies!

My D played on her office softball team this year. Yes, sent her a re-purposed trophy…she laughed. One more trophy down…

The Goodwill by us will take electronics for recycling too.

DH got into decluttering yesterday and got rid of a stack of old insurance benefit books for insurance we no longer have, and old statements from health and car insurance (he shredded those). One less thing for me to do.

Those trophies…ack! I don’t mind the ones they got for actually winning something, but those soccer trophies, in particular, just for being on the team. Even at a young age my kids knew those trophies were superfluous.

With permission, I trashed those trophies.

Ema–where are you? that bed NEEDS a home! Habitat for Humanity near you?

As for stuffed animals (I love them too!)–I stuffed all/or most in some duffle/laundry bags and stuffed them in a closet. Waited 6 months to a year then (out of sight, out of mind does work!) took them out and kept half. Combined bags and did it again. Now I have very few left (only the treasures) and no duffle bags. I donated to toy drives, organizations. Always remember that some little kid will love it (just like you)–but they can’t if it’s sitting in your closet or on your bed.

They shouldn’t have invented trophies…I’m asking permission, take a picture and toss…
that’s my new plan. They should at least make them so they go in a standard size box…
Maybe they should go for medals/charms more…

I’m having the trophy discussion with S3 right now. He wants to keep each and every one! Maybe a few will just have to “disappear”.

Gouf…we have three BOXES of swimming medals in the attic. I vote for chocolate medals that are eaten immediately.

Well, if they mean something to the kid, I’d keep them. Just be sure to give them to the kid when he’s got his own place.

I must admit, DH has two trophies from his college days that he is very proud of and will never get rid of.

Purses and shoes…I hate to change purses (I always forget something!) and the number of truly comfortable shoes I have is limited…though I love them.

So! My shoe list…black-flat/heels (4 pair)…comfy decent looking walking/sport shoes (2)…sandals in every color–6 (one of which is worn above all others), flip flops–150…(same as another poster above!)

Purses–and I do love looking at purses! but I don’t use many. More pockets, smaller, lightweight the better. So I tend to use one favorite and then have a black fancy clutch for dress up. And a larger (more pockets!) for travel. Love tote bags–not cleaning those out…

Well, I would say that MY trophies won’t go anywhere --I only got a couple and by golly, they stay. Rest of my awards are in the form of charms and get put on a necklace so we’re good to go there. We’re talking sandwich bag storage.
But the rest?..They will be shipped off to darling kids in due time but out of my house.

I wish I had a way to display trophies but I don’t–I really do hate to ditch them (donating is a good idea) but stuck in a box is REALLY useless. And the older the trophy or less meaningful it becomes to us means it goes in the box–time to ditch.

Thumper–I was in a contest once where the prize was HUGE chocolate bars! It actually was great–I saved the wrapper–stuck it in a scrapbook and ate the rest (with help)!

We have two rows of trophies in our living room. S threw out a few when he was cleaning. A few actually mean something (national or state-wide award), and are likely staying. The others were mostly for participating in soccer and basketball. Fortunately, they sometimes gave small medals on ribbons, which are much more compact. Sadly, there often was nothing to denote on the medal what year or event the medal was given. I guess we could and should have labeled when they were received, but it probably will make tossing them easier.

H had trophies from decades past as well. We finally pitched those. If they aren’t tarnished, wonder if some kids league may want them, especially if they’re all matching and large enough numbers to award and entire team (after you remove the name plate).

Will sort through a box today–thanks for the reminder.

Ema, A friend of mine recently moved into a townhouse (a Philly Trinity) and the movers could not get her box spring up to the third floor. She put it up on Craigslist (free) and it was picked up by the end of the day. (She had multiple calls.)

I looked around the house, and noticed that in plain sight we have decorations for Christmas, Easter, the Fourth of July and Halloween. (Yay! I moved the Thanksgiving decoration into storage.)

Just posting to make other people feel better. Also to say that I am joining the “2 Bags a Day” auxiliary of this club.

So what happens when you do get extra space? I clean out my garage and then send remnants of my life down so I have new space in my house to fill the garage back up again…better in the garage than my house!

VH…the medals are my husband’s! He will not get rid of them. They have been in our attic for 20 years. My kids had NO interest in the trophies!

I was going to sit down after a hard day but when I pulled up CC I noticed my star on this thread. I just filled two bags of clothes that I had washed into a bag for Goodwill. This thread is a nice reminder.
