The "Bag A Week" Club

How about those dreadful encyclopedias? Would any place take them? Or do they just have to be thrown away?

(I have an old set of encyclopedias that I just love. USSR! etc.)

We have a set of encyclopedias from 1954 that are actually rather charming. We’ve learned an awful lot in the last 60 years.

Ditch the encyclopedias. Not only outdated but everything is on-line. Recycle or toss. Nobody in the age group that could use them wants them.
Getting rid of gift supplies (wrapping paper, ribbon, gift bags, etc). You’d think I was wrapping gifts for an army! No idea I had all this! Argghh! Anybody who can use this stuff?

2 bags today. And I had forgotten about the dress up bin. gotta go.
I love aprons and tossed 6-7 that I have received as gifts but are not in the style I like. Drawer is happy.

I purged my swimsuit “collection”. Some old size 12 suits absolutely had to go, because I was swimming in them! Tossed a few old swim trunks that Mr B would not wear, because they would fall off of him! :)

^^^“swimming in them” – ha ha!!

I have a collection of gift bags that I’ve saved but do not use. They’re going to my sister, whose church has a spot for things like that in their food pantry (especially holiday-related bags). Yesterday I found myself at the American Philatelic Society; they are taking a collection of historical “covers” DH had.

BB, that is one more thing I can get rid of, along with all the beach towels we’ve accumulated as pool owners. Won’t be needing them anymore. :)

Just sold a lot of vinyl. $5 each for The Beatles down to $1 for more obscure things. And some headed to Goodwill (Dan Fogelberg, some Cat Stevens, I don’t know what else). Feeling a little sad about this one. :(

I re-gifted a housewarming gift someone gave me that I was never ever ever going to use. And the person I gave it to is extremely happy with it. Win-win!!

This week, I filed a lot of papers that were cluttering up one of our tables. Most of the papers had to do with our daughter’s athletic career, so I felt a bit emotional since she just retired to go to college. Felt good anyway. Next week, I will wash or dry clean and put away her costumes from this past season.

1mm - just listened to Dan Fogelberg vinyl the other day! Almost donated but got a record player instead. I did get rid of most of my cassettes though. As for handmade/sewn Halloween costumes, I can’t quite part with Laura Ingalls Wilder, d’Artagnan, roman soldier, dinosaur, pooh, or Dalmatian costumes yet.

Five more bags went out today, including my sports cap collection and most of the many bags I have acquired over the years during travel and for travel!

I have a real estate agent coming to the house in two weeks to make recommendations for improvements prior to listing for sale.

Youngest daughter found the vinyl collection in a closet a few years ago and claimed it. Can’t be too upset about her keeping it because it’s not really all that many records, and also my “coolness rating” went up a few points.

After helping my son move out of his apartment (he’s going abroad for a year), I have renewed my resolve to get rid of as much clutter as possible from our house. He was only in his apartment two years but is was still a major undertaking – from the big stuff like getting rid of the couch to the little stuff like the silverware and dishes. I realized that in moving out, you have to put your hands on every single thing that you own.

I do have a confession – I just ordered a new bookcase for the living room. My rationalization is that it will be easier to get organized if there is enough space for the things we are keeping. Right now the two bookcases we have are overstuffed with books, plus CDs and framed photos. I do need to take some of the photos out of the frames and put them in albums but I think I will update them with some more recent photos.

a big bag ready to go today.

A small bag – finally tossed the assorted electronics cords and the collection of shopping bags that I saved because I might someday have a use for. I will say that Apple and Vera Bradley have especially nice shopping bags.

I’m in shock. In total shock. When I left for my out of state trip on Thursday morning, baby kiddo’s room looked like a war zone. She flew out to the East Coast Thursday evening. When I peeked into the room this morning, I found everything perfectly arranged, and the gigantic pile of crap that was taking over the room was gone! So something happened here in the 8 hours between our departures for the airport! Wow. I did not think it was possible to achieve that and to go for a 4-mile run in the woods, too. I will buy her some Haagen Dazs to be delivered to her apartment. :)

Excellent Bunsen! Great when you see a little has rubbed off:) I tackled just 4 shelves yesterday. I had 2 shelves groaning under cookbook things I had not looked at in yesrs. I don’t do the cooking anymore, DH does it. I had a lot of old annual recipe books from southern living and magazines and small supermarket booklets galore, gone. Then tackled another part of my office. Youngest graduated HS 7 years ago. Got a pile of school supplies to go to our local school for teachers or needy students. Also got a huge pile of notebooks from the adult education company I do work for, they send materials out in a new binder everytime they are updated and I have been saving the old binders. . Big bag gone.

3 bags donated and 2 bags in the garbage. All from the basement this week.

This thread has inspired me. Been trying to throw out at least a bag a week for a few months. I shreaded old EOB’s, going back over 20 years, yeas 20 years! So old, it was when they still listed SSN on the form. We are only allowed to fill one large composte and one large recycling barrel each week, otherwise I could have thrown out more. Also listed some “free” stuff on a local site.
