The best calculator. Which one?

Hi!

I need good calculator for SAT Physics and Maths level 2. I will also use it during my education in college on tests etc. What should I get? I consider:

TI Nspire CX (there is a problem with this one because I can't find a shop which ships to Europe (Poland) and from ebay.com it will cost me about 200$)

TI Nspire (I can purchase easily from amazon.com for about 160$)

TI 89 Titanum (I'm afraid that it's too old calculator but has great opinions).

What would you recommend me considering prices I've written? Would I lose much if I take Nspire rather than Nspire CX?

And should I take CAS version? Is it allowed during college and on exams?

The SAT Physics Subject Test doesn’t allow calculators.

The Math II test allows calculators with CAS. As for college, the calculator policies of each professor vary: some allow no calculators while others allow laptop computers during exams.

The NSpire CX isn’t much different from the NSpire; the main difference is the color screen on the CX, which isn’t critical for a good calculator. Both the NSpire and the 89 are great calculators. The 89 certainly isn’t too old and has a built-in CAS. The NSpire comes in non-CAS and CAS versions.

Ultimately, I’d recommend the 89 (which I use with my TI-84+ SE) because I’ve heard that the NSpire’s interface is quite hard to pick up.

Like the above person stated, buy a TI 89.
I used that and supplemented it with a TI 84. The NSpire is a nice calculator but it takes a while to get used to. The 84 and 89 can be picked up and used with relative ease.

Also, the only SAT Subject tests that allow for calculators are the Math subject tests.

Hm, are you sure? Nspire has got much more RAM i larger screen, I had been thinking it’s better the TI 89…

And if TI 89, should I take Titanum version?

NSpire has (arguably) better technical specs, but it’s user interface is maddeningly complicated. And yes, get the TI-89 Titanium. Non-titanium also has a CAS, but I believe the Titanium has more RAM, runs faster, etc.

I’ve found good offer for TI Nspire CX CAS and I think I will get it. TI 89 Titanum’s lack of natural input will annoy me, so I would prefer CX. But thanks for advice!

I got an 800 with the TI-84 (I’m also pretty sure I had a raw of 50/50)

I would NOT use the 89.

Honestly, it has 29304820348 times more functions than you really need and it’s difficult to navigate through it for the first time.

Stick simply to an 84 Plus Silver from Costco.
