The better World Cup Thread

I love playing in the mud and rain especially, hate the hot days. tennis is cool though, you have .. anna kournikova, williams sister . . plenty of other nice girls.

well, lol, they're foreign doctors . . "sports won't get you anywhere, stick to the books." it got kinda tiring asking for a ride after every practice and the yelling and crap at home wasn't worth it. leah thanks for joining the thread, I felt kinda strange being the only girl on the thread haha.

Parents suck at understanding their kids.

Yeah but my mom wants me to become like some pro tennis player or something. :o I'm cool with that.

Then my grandmother wants me to really become a doctor.

Although I want to be a doctor b/c I choose to.

Uncle wants me to go into stupid basketball. :( That I will not do!

I wonder why ppl try to push you into crap you already like or don't like?

Ahh--that's terrible, sarorah!
My dad would be completely fulfilled if my sister or I were good at soccer (he's played since he was like 11).

It's kind of weird--everything I've done has been completely self-motivated. Compared to a lot of my friends, my parents could care less as to what I do. I get straight As, but they don't really care. I'm in every club known to man because I have so many interests, but they've never really pushed me to join anything. I'm definitely glad that they don't pressure me or anything, but I've had to figure out everything regarding SATs, AP classes, college searching, etc. by myself..

couldn't have said it better wraider . . and the people that do understand choose not to have children, most of the time. my 2 yr old brother always falls asleep near me on purpose, not my mother, and I don't think I'll have any kids. in fact as I type this, he's asleep on the floor here because i'm in the computer room, not in my mom's room. Haha.

i couldn't answer phil, i'm in the same situation. my parents want me to be exactly like them, down to studying habits, and it's very very irritating. but hey, 1 more year and i'm goooonnnneeeeeeee :)

i've been looking forward to college for TOO long now.

leah, you're so lucky, i think i could be a better person if they left me alone. they add too much uneeded stress I think. i got a huge lecture for being on this site, no joke. While probably around 75% of kids don't care about college, I get busted for reading a college article.

this thread kinda deviated haha . . like every thread.
did you guys know david beckham's legs are at an estimated 44 million? he's in the world record book for the most priced body part I think

hahah yeahh my parents always yell at me for worrying about getting into college so much--they don't really understand how competitive it is because my dad just went to state U in the late '70s and my mom went to community college..

lol my parents know it's competitive, but they think that having the top marks is all you need, still, even though it's more than that. the other day he was saying . . "okay we know that they get into harvard and princeton, but you, you won't get in. why don't you pick up a book instead?"

i was like . . "WOW THANKS FOR BEING SUPPORTIVE . . "

thats probably why they can't enjoy life, picking up too many damn books. haha.

ARGENTINA vs SERBIA-MONTENEGRO. . argentina will win for sure. too bad, i'm part serbian.

Few personal things about my world cup adventure:

The phones in Holland are a complete joke if you’re not from here.
You simply can’t make a 1-800 call… not 00-800, not 00-1-800, not one zero, nothing…
Basically they should have a pre-recording in english, so as soon as you pick up the headset you hear,
“if you speak Dutch, press 1… if you speak english… go F yourself.”
Because that’s how it works.

Don’t drive in Amsterdam, don’t bike in amsterdam… basically, just get out of the way.
People run over you here with trains, bikes, cars and anything else they can possibly use as transportation.
God help this city if they ever discover the segway.

Germans are very, VERY polite people.
I think they’re really trying because of that whole Nazi history thing… Kinda a dark blemish, but even Germans are amazed at the image us Americans have….
“You’re American?… Oh, Jesus.”
And their women are very attractive too.

I wish more people in the states would drive tiny cars like they do in Europe.
Gas isn’t much of a problem, it’s easy to park and you look pretty damn cool driving a car you can put in your pocket.

The Euro cleans it’s butt with the American dollar.
You give a teller 100 american dollars and she laughs at you, then gives you a handful of change and metro ticket.
What the hell is that?

Did I mention the women in Germany are very attractive?
The girls in Holland are slim, but they’re all lankey. You would think that since they ride their bikes all day long, they would be more tone, but no… just skin, bones and a pale face.
To each their own… Maybe next summer I’ll do some more research around Europe if my wife doesn’t mind.

The world cup should be a national holiday. The WHOLE MONTH.
How can people work with all this great soccer around them?

These guys train for 4 years… building their best possible team, and we can’t even take off to watch them play?!?!

Hahaha. One day I hope i can go see the world cup live . .

I want to go to the Winter Olympics. Hell, I want to go to the Summer Olympics too.

Same here. :) Summer for me though! Tennis!

Winter! Snowboarding!

http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/pgStory?contentId=3216398&pageNumber=14

Here's empirical proof that my parent's assertion that doctors/businessman will lead better lives than pro athletes is totally misguided.;)

That woman looks like she perpetually pouts at people..

and that would be bad because?

Haha I just don't know anyone who constantly makes that face.

..it's probably the collagen.

I don't think anyone here even noticed her face hahaha

I think I should go around and pout at people all day.

I think #33 is the prettiest

Actually, #16s are the best.

Four way. Giggity giggity gig-i-ty.

I clicked on the link and some guy walking behind me (im in the library now) just went "da-yamn". Haha.
