Page 601 10. Although critixized by a few for her daredevil aviation escapades, most people viewed Amelia Earhart as a skillful pilot.

The answer is
Amelia E. was viewed by most people as a skillful pilot

I chose, Most people viewed Amelia E. as a skillful pilot.

I feel that both make sense.... but don't know why 1's better than the other...is it because of parallelism??? (by ---- by ???)

also pg 602, q19
After Gertrude Ederle a) HAD SWAM the English Channel, she b) WAS CELEBRATED AS the first woman ever c) TO ACCOMPLISH / d) THE FEAT.
the caps are underlined portion
the answer is "HAD SWAM" I chose "TO ACCOMPLISH" b/c i thought it should be to have accomplished... instead.... I don't get this....

Oh and is "not nearly" a double negative??
if not, can s/1 list some double negative's ???

"Although criticized by a few for her daredevil aviation escapades" is adverb modifier of Amelia Earhart, so the subject of following clause must be "Amelia Earhart", not "Most people"

also pg 602, q19: had swum not had swam
