Yeah and sparticus, I've wanted to try freestyle sking for a while now...I've snowboarded since I was about 8, but have never skiied, ever :o.

I'm a really slow driver. To give you a mental picture of how slow I drive, I was beeped by a school bus several times. However, I only drive slow uphills but I do pretty fast downhills...around 40m/h. I feel that if I drive too fast, I'll mess up my brand new Toyta Celica.

lol, that's pretty freaking funny about the bus, hahahaha.

I love Celicas... I was po'd when they discontinued it... I have a '98 Pontiac, and it's an alright car, but I realllllyy wanted a Celica. Thatt led me to the RSX. As for the suggestion that the Honda Civic Si is replacing the RSX, I'm not really sure about that, since the RSX is such a new model (about 5 years old now?) Either way, I really like 'em. I get what you're saying about the $$ thing in college, but I don't know how much longer my car will last. It's got about 115,000 miles on it (it had a lot less when I bought it last year...), so I have to take realllly good care of it so it doesn't crap-out on me.

So I hope this was a good idea, I think we needed a more relaxed discussion. So far there have been some great topics (e.g. bad circulation, Oakleys, bad circulation, cars, bad circulation, skiing/snowboarding, etc.).

Has anyone tried the new Oakley Why 8.2's? I really like em on the web site, but I don't know what they're like in person and the local dealer is always out of them. Also of some personal interest, has anyone tried on/seen the new Romeo 2's? or the Hatchet Wires?? both of which are reallly sexy looking sunglasses...

Another topic for possible discussion...
Does anyone have a job? I've been working at Sears for a little while now. It's a fun job. A lot of hard work (lifting a lot of tool kits, and that kinda thing), but it's a whole lotta fun.

i teach rock climbing, it's kind of weird. it pays decently though

That's pretty sweet. I love rock climbing, but I haven't gone in about 2 years.

I work in a video production computer lab here at cornell. it's in Uris library. I supervise the people who walk in. We have a bunch of 3GHz, 2GB RAM PCs w/ DVD burners and a lot of really expensive apps like Adobe Premier Pro and Photoshop, and I help students with them. We also loan out digital video cameras for free, as well as projectors. (in other words: cornell rocks!)

lol, sparticus, now that i know that i'll have to come in asking you to edit some "really hot" (really terrible) porn movies that "i've been working on for months...i just need help getting the lady to fit in the picture itself"

...you wait!

maybe you can talk to this girl remi knows...

Hmm, how can we transition back into this thread...

Do any of the ladies on the board have Oakleys? :o

There are some pretty nice women's sunglasses that they make; I have never known a girl who wore Oakleys, though. Hey guys, do any of the girls up on campus wear Oakleys  ? lol, I'm really trying to transition, but it's not as smoothely as I had hoped.

Aviators are hot. I need to buy a pair.

Also, I've skiied since I was 6 although I'm really not that good. I'm a very conservative skiier and don't really do tricks. I really want to get into skiboards (those really short skis) this winter and hopefully do a few tricks. If I like them I'll buy a pair because they are much cheaper than regular skis.

I love cars. My dads always been a BMW kind of guy; that is until he totaled his E46 M3 in May of this year. He got a 2006 CLS 55 AMG in April and it's awesome. I've driven it a few times and I realize that I am not experienced enough to control it. As for me, I usually drive an old Jeep Grand Cherokee or sometimes a clk 430. The Jeep is wicked fun in the snow, but its not much for speed.

haha im into cars as well. :( too bad we wont be needing them much when we're off to college. (our first year atleast)

Yeah, that's true. However, I may be getting an apartment if I get into Cornell. I am not sure if this is a good idea though. Any comments/suggestions? I have several reasons for considering this:
-I LOVE to cook. and I don't know how available dorm kitchens are
-I want/need to get a job to pay for expenses (i.e. bartending)
-I don't want to stay at home during summer and over breaks because my mom and little brother are moving into a smaller house which will be comfortable for them
-I kinda like my own space (although, it would be fun to have the whole roommate experience)

I know what some people are going to say, in that, living on campus gives you an opportunity t meet people, have easy access to everything, etc. But what I am wondering, would it be that different if I was able to get an apartment close to campus (I have a few choices, some of which are literally right off the campus grounds)?

As for the sunglasses, Oakley makes aviators now. They are called "Crosshair" and they are SWEET. I have tried them on and they are very comfortable and look freakin' AwEsOmE! Look into them if you want high performance aviators (they also have a polarized version-nothing is better than a pair of polarized Oakleys).

So.... Do any girls wear Oakleys? I will ask you to marry me on the spot if you do :) jk... Guys, have you ever known a girl who wears Oakleys? I have only seen a few, but when I see them, man, it's like instantaneous heartache... Is that bad? I dunno, that may be considered a character flaw...

black: don't get an apartment frosh year. 1, I don't think you can, and 2, you'll miss out on the freshman dorm experience. It is awesome, and a great way to make friends! We have a full kitchen right outside my room for the people on out hall to use, just as all the other dorms do: Sink, oven, stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, counter.

There are bars in collegetown, and finding campus jobs is really easy: there is a centralized posting place online. It shouldn't really affect your living choice.

You can live in a single for only a few hundred more a year.

The apartments where everyone lives are in collegetown, like a 20 minute+ walk from the freshman dorms...just don't man, you'll regret it. If you want apartment style living with a living room and stuff, request a townhouse. It's like living in an apartment with a few other guys, you just can't throw wild parties 24/7. you can throw small ones though as long as you don't get too loud. You'll be right next to a dining hall and student center and all the other frosh as well. Sounds like that's what is good for you.

yeah, I was looking in to those as well. They were looking pretty good-and inexpensive too... Either way, I'm gonna need to bring my car for transportation because I don't trust the busses to get me to work on time every day. I think I agree with you Sparticus. I would apply for a townhouse my frosh year, and maybe move into an apartment Sophomore year.

Thank you for the input though. You're right, I really don't want to miss out on the dorm experience all together, haha.

So ladies?? Oakleys anyone? :p

Buses are good if you budget an extra 10 minutes. the 81 goes through campus every 10 minutes, even if it doesn't stop right on the X:X0 at risley as it's supposed to.

parking might be more of a problem than bus irregularity

hahaha, bth extremely valid points! I have been in both those situations (the 81 not getting there at the right time (not a big deal), and the no parking downtown), and it's still up in the air as to which I would find to be worse/more frustrating. Either way, it would work out.

hmm..does anyone know the answer to live-'s question? here it is again:

Speaking of motor vehicles and Cornell, could anyone tell me how hard it is to keep a motorcycle there (living on campus) during a spring (and summer if I do the eng. coop) semester? I know a lot of people have said cars are kind of a pain...are motorcycles any different or would it be the same arrangement?

motorcycles should need a parking permit as well, so I would imagine that they are just as much of a pain. Cars aren't so much of a pain as an expense 619.22 or w/e it is, plus no bus pass (worth $200) is a lot of money...

stay on campus for your first year. I'm living in collegetown next year with a fellow member of the cornell cycling team. this is where we'll plan domination of the collegiate cycling world.

sweet. Hey, you should get some Oakley Racing Jackets for cycling! Sorry, I'm trying to continue the Oakley theme.........
