How is housing assigned? Are you matched to a roommate based on your personality or is it completely random?

You can pick a roommate or have one assigned. My friend who’s a freshmen this year met some people on Facebook and found her roommate that way.

Vandy doesn’t do personality testing for roommates…Davidson does, actually! You answer like 3-4 questions that are limited to when you sleep at night and like to rise, and if you like music on when you study etc.
My son had a wonderful roommate from California randomly who was a health nut with reasonable study habits…ditto my son at Duke…another lucky draw…a roommate who was really into exercise and routine sleep…a guy from Florida.
Neither pair stayed together second year so you really shouldn’t worry too much about freshman year roommates. There are many ways to plan out your sophomore year with people you have hit it off with.
Facebook matches can also result in later being “non-matches” but requests are allowed at Vandy and it is not unusual to find that people have sought each other out and made requests via social networks or even by meeting up on Accepted Student days in April in person.
You really can’t go wrong in terms of freshmen housing…all freshman dorms are either newly renovated and on the lovely Stanford White designed Peabody Lawn… or in stunningly new and green buildings across from the wonderful freshman Commons…the new dorms are in their third year of occupancy now.

You will want to find your roomate on facebook. I live in Hank ingram. I have a huge room and is great commons are the best. it is done randomly though.
